Hi everyone. I am new to this group and a bit desperate right now. My boyfriend has been experiencing pain in his feet for 4 years. He now has the same type of feeling in his stomach..pins and needles, but not sensitive to the touch. Everything the doctors have given him does not help. He can't sit still because he feels like his feet are going to blow up. He does what he can to hide the pain, but I can see it in his eyes. He used to live in a small town in Cali where specialty docs are limited..he is now here in Phx, AZ now where there is more opportunity to see a good specialist. He's working, but doesn't get insurance until jan and every day he feels like he is dying. He works through the pain, but then gets home and wants to go to bed around 7pm and sleep thru the night. This is all new to me, and advice, suggestions, or anything that could help I would be very greatful.

Welcome to NeuroTalk:
Without knowing more about him, his age, diet and habits, health, other medical data like drugs used, both RX and OTC, etc, it is hard to respond to your post. We have a busy PN forum here where you can read information on the subforum and post on the regular part. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum20.html Some people get really low in magnesium because American diets are poor in providing it. A simple epsom salt soak for the feet before bed may help. Magnesium will go thru the skin that way. 6-8oz in a bathtub or 3 oz or so in a dishpan sized pan, and lukewarm water for about 1/2 an hour or so may help.

I sincerely hope you find the right medical treatment for your boyfriend. Sometimes it takes more than on kind of doctor to DX. Working while enduring pain is very difficult, and you are being the best kind of support in trying to seek some help. I would tell you to find a doctor, through a hospital advocacy program until insurance kicks in. It takes a bit of doing this way, but there are specialists that will see you with no insurance. A physiatrist, treats the whole individual. My PN is under control since I found this specialist. I wish you and your boyfriend all the best. ginnie
