My younger brother was found unexpectedly deceased lying on his stomach in his bed 3 weeks after being beaten badly with a concussion. He complained of bad headaches all the time since that time. I live in Texas and he lived in Boston area where I am originally from. I went there to take care of things and found when I entered the apartment that there was blood on his pillows and sheets where his head would have been, could his death been caused from being beaten 3 weeks prior.
He lived alone and was an alcoholic but there were no alcohol, empty bottles, meds found in his apartment. An autopsy has been done and it takes a long time to get the results back. I am just wondering if the blows to his head might have possibly caused his death and the blood on his bed. Please help me figure this out. I wish I had been there to take care of him when it happened, I didn't find out till his death about the beating |

Dear Rapunzele,
What a terrible story! I am so sorry. These things shouldn't happen, but sadly they do. Of course you wish that you had been there to take care of your brother, but you did not know what had happened. When these tragedies happen you always think what you could have done different, but we just have to do our best knowing what we know at the time. Good luck to you and my deepest sympathy for your loss. CS |

My condolences... sounds tragic.
Alcoholics develop clotting disorders, because a damaged liver can no longer make the peptides, that are needed for normal clotting. Also the veins in the esophagus enlarge and can burst leading to a sudden hemorrhage. It is not uncommon for alcoholics to bleed to death, therefore. So without an autopsy, it would be difficult to hazard an explanation yet. I am sorry for your loss.
