My name is Matt. I was in an auto accident in August. I was diagnosed with a concussion. Since then I've had headaches that vary in degree, ear ringing, memory loss, difficulty concentrating, head pressure, irritability, anxiety, depression, dizziness, and vision problems.
It's been quite a journey. Before the accident, I was training for police academy. Since then I've gained weight due to medications and not being able to be active. It's frustrating. It's difficult for people to understand and I never imagined I would still be like this. |

Hi Matthew, and welcome to the community. Sorry you're going through all that! Have you checked our forum for Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Concussion Syndrome? If not, here's the link: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum92.html
This is a good place. You'll find support, probably some advice, and surely eventually someone who's in the same boat. Make yourself at home! There are "chit-chat" forums, too.

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your accident and concussion. I know it's hard to accept. It won't always be this way. You can improve. Hubby had a concussion and a stroke and had a C1 burst 4th of July. He has a lot of vision disturbances. We found neuro visual rehab therapist. Just getting started with that therapy. Didn't know it existed before his need for it. This is 1 1/2 hour one way, in Ashland, Ky, twice a week. Google around for one in your area. Very promising. ![]() I do understand. You are not alone here. Ky also has vocational rehabilitation services that you might find helpful, for retraining skills. It's a government program. Take it easy. Give your body time to heal. Lots of friendly people here that have been through it. Lots of info here. Hang in there.

Hi Matt,
I understand how frustrating and lonely it can be to deal with something like this. It sucks. But there are people who can help you get better. Look up a Neuro Rehabilitation Clinic in your area and make an appt. They can help you learn to manage your brain fatigue levels, and teach you the things you can do on a daily basis to help your brain heal, and to help you manage these symptoms that are overwhelming your life. I do not have a post concussion syndrome, but have some other neurological problem that causes similar problems, plus I also suffer from imbalance and speech problems. I have been struggling with this since July and it is hell. I've been seeing a speech therapist at the Neuro Rehab Clinic for several weeks, and it's been the best thing that has happened to me since all of this started. They are so kind and helpful and know exactly why you are struggling. I promise you this will help you immensely. I also recommend the book, Nourish Your Noggin: Brain-Building Foods & Easy-to-Make Recipes to Hasten Your Healing From Mild Traumatic Brain Injury -Concussion & Post Concussion Syndrome-, by Tina Sullivan. Good luck! |
