Hi - I have been suffering from PCS since the 23rd Feb and have had precious little effective support from my GP. I share many of the feelings of frustration expressed by others on this site (which is of great use) and I am keen to do everything possible to see some improvement.
Does anyone have any insight the liklihood of a full recovery, I'm keen to understand how often a complete return to normal function occurs? Also, what basic assistance/advice should I be insisting on from my Doctor? Any view / opinions would be gratefully received. Thanks |

Matt,
My son has had his PCS since 2/17, thus a similar amount of time. He is improving and everyone is a little different but I have not heard anyone tell me they have been suffering for years. I think you do gradually get better. Depending on your responsibilities, work, school etc, you need rest until symptoms go away. Very gradually activity, cognitive and physical should be increased as long as symptoms don,t relapse. A neuropsychologist and neurology referral should be obtained from primary care physician and they should be experienced with concussions, usually sports medicine specialists are. The neurpsychologist helps you plan your recovery etc. You have a temporary disability and should be treated as such. One day at a time and you will get better. Hang in there! More and more is being understood about this issue but general practitioners understand very little. |

Thanks Nancy - improvement for me has been slow and some times difficult to perceive. This may be in part due to my job (I'm 35 and in IT Sales - which is fairly pressured) and a lack of proper medical advice.
I have tried to maintain a positive apporach throughout - which I understand is key (sometimes easier said than done). However this has been particularly difficult when I have had little effective medical advice (hence my scouring the web and finding this site - I'm from the UK if you hadn't already guessed) Thanks for the supportive sentiments - all comments, thoughts and shared experience gratefully received. I hope your son has a speedy and full recovery. Thanks again, Matt |
