Question Do i need to see a neurologist?

Hi, I am new and have a major question.

Back in March I was traumatized by a YouTube video that was really scary. I felt a sharp pain hit me in the head by the shock and the sensation was really hard to describe.

I believe I struck a nerve, because since then I have developed a strong sensitivity to noises and certain visuals. Any noise or visual that disturbs me seems to trigger a response in the same area as the pain I felt from the video.

In the past two weeks I have been feeling muscle tension in my head and 3 mornings I woke up with my heart racing, a numb face, and muscle spasms. This seems to be getting worse. I have only been getting 2-3 hours of sleep at a time.

In July I had a panic attack from reasons I can't totally explain, the hospital I went to prescribed me Xanax, an anxiety medication that has been helping a lot with these symptoms.

I'm learning that a Reumatologist would be the person to see for Fibro, but I also feel like I need a Neurologist because of the nerve symptoms.

I really don't know what I've got yet. What I do know is that when I experienced the trauma, I felt a sharp pain pain me. That is the best way I know how to describe it.

I've been searching around the terms 'nerve', 'trauma', 'anxiety', 'sensitivity', and the like but feel I'm getting totally mixed results.

My situation feels very unique, but at the same time I am trying to imagine others experiencing trauma that shocked them so bad it destroyed a nerve.

This is so frustrating

Double,

It might be a good idea to start with your general practitioner if you have one, and see what he/she would suggest. A GP will know a little bit better what might be going on and give you a referral to the kind of doctor (whether it be a neurologist or rheumatologist) best suitable for your needs.

Good luck,
Sweets

Hi Sweets,

That is exactly what I was going to suggest to Double. You beat me to the punch.

I will add that "some" specialists require a referral from the patient's primary care physician, ..... some do not. The PCP would be the best place to begin regardless.

I did more researching and learned that I have actually been experiencing a 2 week Migraine! Oh my hell!

It literally took me forever to figure this out. After a doctor visit, dentist visit, having a tooth pulled, experiencing a bad reaction to Lortab & antibiotics, 3 911 calls, disturbing peace in the family, I literally feel like a total wreck.

Now I've got to decide how I am going to cure it. It's been with me for two weeks and seemed to start after drinking 3 counts of alcohol.

My family doc was no help in diagnosing it, and feel like I've lost all faith in him.

Don't lose faith in your GP what's ailing you he would be limited in knowledge. My pcp flatly stated my issue was out of his area of expertise. So just ask your GP for referral
