Red face Hi Everyone

I came across this site while I was doing some reading about back spurs. I go see my GP tomorrow and wanted to ask her about specific tests that could be done.

I have a few things going on. I have bilateral carpal tunnel that runs from my fingertips to my shoulders. Spurs from T5-T10. Herniated L4-L5 disc. Bilateral knee pain. Had an arthroscopy done on my left, cleared out scar tissue. I am a carrier for Hemochromatosis, my dad is a carrier, but also affected by it. So far my levels are good. My son was also diagnosed as a carrier. I have fatty liver, Bipolar II, IBS, GERD, Bile Reflux, Vit D deficient, Allergies(allergic to everything but my dog).

I'm on quite a few medications, right now my pain doctor is trying to switch to longer acting. I have been on Oxycodone for about 2 years now. Fentanyl patch is my next one to try. I was on Morphine which I had some side effects with, and we decided that one wasn't for me. The patch is just a trial, he said if it works, thats great, if not then the next step is Opana.

Glad I found this site, and I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Hi there.

My name is Melody and I wanted to share my husband's experience with the Fentanyl pain patch years and years ago. He said it was the ONLY thing that worked for his peripheral neuropathy. Back then he was still working and driving his car. He changed the patch every two days.

He had to get off of it because (at that time) he was on the highest dose allowed and well, he had to titrate down and go to detox for the last 25 of the patch. But it DID work for his pain. I'll never forget that.

We have a friend who has severe neuropathy and he (and others we know) have been doing this hot/cold therapy. You start with cool water and keep both feet in it for 8 minutes (to start) and then you take your feet out and put them in warm water. You go back and forth for 8 minutes.

Then after one week you do it for 20 minutes and keep the water as cold as you can stand it. He says it SHOCKS the nervous system back into balance.

After a few weeks he adds a teaspoon of sea salt to the water. He says it detoxes the body.

I am no expert but I've seen this guy. He can stand on his tip toes, he now does jumping jacks and his neurologist just took him off of IVIG (which he was on every 21 days for 8 years).

Imagine! he is off of IVIG. My husband started this and never felt so good in his life but then his foot ulcer came back and you can't soak your feet in water when a foot ulcer is healing.

But believe me, when my husband's foot ulcer heals, he'll be doing his hot/cold therapy. He can't wait. He said "my feet never felt so good".

So I wish you well

Melody

Smile Hello Patsmom!

Welcome to NT!

Thanks for the introduction! You'll find that there are many caring people here and it's such a great place for support.
I've been on the Fentanyl patch for a few years and must say that it's been very good to me. Not having to take so many pills and getting a constant stream of the medication is what I like about it. It may take a bit to get used to and be aware of the dangers.

Here's the 'Medication' forum which you might find helpful:

Make yourself right at home! I hope you will get some answers regarding the back spurs and other conditions you are faced with. Feel free to use the 'search' feature toward the top of the screen to type in key words. It'll bring up posts from past discussions on them while you wait for responses from our friends.

It's great to have you with us.
Caring,
Rae
