Default Glad to find this board!

I'm an over-60 widow with two sons, and all three of us have nerve pain problems! Which is pretty interesting considering we adopted each of them as newborns, but I just keep telling them they're benefitting from genetics-by-osmosis. My initial reason for searching and finding this forum is a recently-developed problem, nerve damage following a fall wherein I broke my right (dominant) wrist and now, 2 months post-op the wrist itself is feeling pretty good, but my thumb, index and middle fingers are numb-painful, VERY painful, and the surgeon I was referred to turns out to be one I'd never have chosen if the situation hadn't been an emergency. My new OT is surprised at the nerve damage, and all I can get from the doc is "maybe it'll resolve, maybe 'something' nicked the nerve, but basically you're healed, so goodbye". Since I'm a fine bead artist and avid needleworker as well, I'm extremely distressed and searching for effective treatment modalities, support and reasonable expectations.

Additionally I've lived with severe scoliosis all of my life, and the progressive nature of my particular type has caused me a lot of pain and disability. I manage it pretty well through a number of approaches, including exercise, pacing myself, medications, and I have at times used a TENS successfully. I also have a slight diabetic (Type II) peripheral neuropathy in my left big toe, as well as carpal tunnel syndrome, pretty well-managed by wearing nighttime splints until the fall and broken wrist.

My sons both have chronic pain caused by what has only recently diagnosed as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrom, Hypermobility type. We are quite a threesome!

I look forward to learning from others on this board and hope to find some answers or at least get pointed in the right direction.

Oh, and I goofed when I signed up, my username should read "beadingmypassion" , but didn't realize I'd mistyped until I'd hit the Submit button. Oh,well.

Default Welcome to NT :)

Just wanted to say welcome and I'm sure there will be lots of people coming behind me that will have suggestions/advise for you. So sorry for what you and your sons are going through.

I have small fiber neuropathy from having diabetes and 6 chemo treatments. (Is that better Dr. Smith ?

I do not have a creative bone in my body and am always in awe of someone who does......I bet your work is beautiful

Take care.

Thanks so much for the welcome.

I don't think there's such a thing as having "(not a) creative bone in (your) body"! I think there's hidden potential in each of us, it's just finding a way to tap into it!
