Default New member, scared and depressed.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to arrive at this group in pain and in fear. I have had an extensive amount of dental work done over the last three months with no relief. The final straw appears to have been a root canal that checks out as having healed perfectly with no imperfections but there is a constant throbbing ache that never stops. Naturally my dentist does not want to pull the tooth since there is no indication that will make the pain stop. The words "atypical toothache" are just starting to float around my diagnostic picture. Nothing I have read has been very encouraging. In fact I'm terrified. I feel that I am at the very start of a long and horrible journey. I'm reaching for support as a drowning man reaches for a rope I don't know what else to do. I wish I had something more intelligent to say at this time.

Yours, Helena.

Helena,

Just so you know there are reports of trigger points in muscles referring pain to teeth. Dentists may be persuaded to pull these teeth when there is no problem with them. I have no idea if this is your problem, but I am aware of it.

You should search for trigger point referral to teeth and look at some pictures. I think you would then try to press on some of these muscles and see if it refers the pain. You would then have to find a very skilled physical therapist who does dry needling who can work on those muscles. You may also have to buy some books on the subject.

No idea if this is it, but you should know.

Hi Helena,
Welcome to the forum....I think many of us arrived here with pain and fear, so you are not alone.

I am not saying this is your problem but, it was mine. I kept going to my dentist with what I thought were toothaches and certain my pain was bad enough to need extractions, etc. Luckily my dentist was educated enough to realize it was nerve pain from Lyme Disease that was causing my toothaches. Despite the fact that my pain seemed to be very specific to only one or two teeth, he was correct. I know of people who have also had a lot of dental work done and it turned out to be Lyme Disease that was causing their dental pain. Again, I don't want to alarm you and I don't know the details of your dental pain but it is one possible answer for no relief from pain after having dental work.

I had a very long history of Lyme Disease so my dentist suggested I go back to my Lyme doc for more treatment and medications for neuropathy were added.

I wish you the best in finding answers to your dental pain.
Diandra
