Default Introducing myself

I am new here - just joined and finding my way around this forum. I found NeuroTalk through a Neuropathy group I belong to on Facebook ...and thought it would be nice to find new friends in the "same boat" as I am. I was diagnosed with PN about a year ago and have been in alot of pain. Not everyday...some days are better than others. Yesterday was the pits; but today I am feeling better. I want to learn more about taking care of myself and alternative ways to cope. The pain started in my feet...tingling, burning and numbness and has progressed up my legs to my knees with pain that now needs a Lidocaine patch along with Gabapentin. I am still working, but near retirement...I am luck that my job entails sitting so I am not on my feet all day. But by 4 pm when I get home, I am exhausted and in pain.

I have alot of grandkids (8) and would love to run around with them but find I am limited in what I can do. Basically I just want to talk to others who understand what I am experiencing and come away with some knowledge that I can cope.....thank you for listening....

Default Introducing new member

Hi, I am new here. I have CIPN from June 2013. I had to stop chemo due to neuropathy. I was almost done I had two sessions left. My neuropathy was first sensory. From last week I noticed some muscle weakness in both legs and arms. I have muscle twitching, cramping and pain. I think my neuropathy is now motor neuropathy. I have an appointment with my neurologist in two weeks. Let's see what he will say! I am worried why did it get worse? I am doing physical therapy, even after that why I had do I have muscle weakness. What to do to make stop the neuropathy progress? I know I need to lose weight. I gained 30 pounds during chemotherapy. But is it the reason why the neuropathy is progressing? My therapist said that I have 100 percent muscles in my legs. I am taking supplement B12,vitamin D, iron, one a day woman vitamin. I am on Gabapentin 800mg a day.
Please any advice.

Welcome to NeuroTalk...Sabela...

If you search the PN forum for "chemo" you'll find posts with
suggestions to use OTC agents to help prevent or lessen damage to nerve cells DNA by chemo drugs.

example:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/post1066194-7.html

Acetyl carnitine was used in some studies over the past and showed some improvement in some people. They used 1 to 2 grams a day.

We have more information at our Peripheral Neuropathy forum here:

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum20.html

Chemo also depletes magnesium, so using a SlowMag twice a day may help replace that. There is a lotion now that is very convenient and helpful for specific targets like the feet or lower legs etc. Morton Epsom Lotion...available at WalMart and online at Amazon.com Use only a little bit on each application as it is concentrated and you don't need alot. Apply only to intact skin.
If you apply at night it will help you sleep too.
