Hi, I suffered with PN for six years. I felt like I was being electrocuted at night and my hands were numb most of the daytime. I was covered in painful trigger points. I saw all the specialists multiple times over. I tried all of the drugs. I got a massage every 30 days. Eventually had to give up exercise. I am 36 and felt 75. Then, one day someone suggested I Google the words: Nerve Pain Gluten. I started reading. This was me! I had real hope. I knew instantly that I was about to get better. Eight days in, my pain was gone. But, my hands were still numb. I kept reading which led me to try eliminating dairy. I secretly prayed it wouldn't work. I love my ice cream! But, it eliminated the numbness. I'm nearing 6 months of being pain-free! I don't take any medications. I sleep well. Nothing hurts. And now I am obsessed with sharing my story! I will be so excited, if I can help one person.

Glad that your dietary changes have resulted in considerable improvement.
We have a Celiac/gluten forum here, but it's not terribly active. The peripheral neuropathy forum tends to get mroe action: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/fo...prune=365&f=13 http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/fo...prune=365&f=20 In the gluten forum, you should get familiar with JCCglutenfree's Gluten File, if you haven't already--probably the single best and most comprehensive database about the subject, especially neurological manifestations, yet accumulated: https://sites.google.com/site/jccglutenfree/ |

I Am gluten free and mine is only getting worse. glad the gf diet helped you. I guess the difference is Celiac, which I have, can cause nerve damage and being a non-celiac the diet may help more?

GlutenFree77 I'm happy to hear you are feeling better. I've been on a gluten free diet for more than ten years and mostly dairy free for two. I've developed peripheral neuropathy over the past three years. It has been misdiagnosed for nearly that entire time as spine issues. Only recently when it got much worse in my hands have I been able to conclusively say it is not back or neck related.
I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has or hasn't had luck combating neuropathy with a gluten free diet. I'm strict about no gluten and no dairy but there are a few restaurants with GF food that I frequent. I also indulge in Omission and the occasional whiskey drink. Although neither of them cause me to feel like I've eaten gluten (I typically get very sick for up to 1-2 weeks) I'll be cutting them out of my diet to see if that could be contributing. |
