a couple things from experience, your mileage may vary.
I have found a pain management expert that saved my life. i was just about to loose it, and although I was trying to force my mind into positive affirmations, i don't know how much longer i could function till i have a panic breakdown or worse .
I am going to try to tell you what I do, and maybe that can help you some, or find something else by reading.\
Our brain has that awesome elastic property, and our nervous system has it too.

Whatever sensory information is transmitted to your brain, makes you react accordingly. Please understand that no one around you knows what is going on on your mind. In another words, the problem only exists in your mind, so from this perspective you can use mindful exercises of the mind itself to counter balance the crazy sensory information that is flowing and messing you up.
In my case:
I have occipital and probably trigeminal neuralgia, but occipital neuralgia symptoms were my chief complaint, and i was pretty mad when after one year i found out that the insurance denied my treatment, even though I had been complained about the same symptoms since the beginning...I almost got killed for a few times because no one helped me, and I felt I had to make money to pay for child support and my expenses. It was the worse that i did, but the car insurance told me that my premiums would increase, and the dummy here went without treatment for a long time, decreasing my recovery chances. I had 10k PIP on my car insurance and should have used it to treatmyself, instead my HR at the time told me this was a workers compensation matter, and again, i was not given another choice, and not knowing better, I said ok.

The workers comp does not give a hoot about my well being. But anyhow, specifically to your post, I had much more anxiety before, and pain, but still do. After i did those nerve block shots, pain levels started to decrease in my case. I did acupuncture too, and it worked greatly with sharp pain.
I still have constant dull pain at the base of my skull, in my face and my eye is pretty much constantly sore, so i am familiar with headaches and other crazy symptoms i have in my face.

In order to try to function, i do a lot of mind exercises, to ignore the pain that I feeling. I take sometimes pain killers, or take every once in a while an energy drink (energy drink has a magic power in relieving the pain and symptoms that i feel, but it will mess up my live if i drink them often, so i don't) but try to stay away from artificial stuff.

My mind is the most powerful creative force that i have at my disposal. If we use our mind by focusing on exercises of positive energy, and such, we will reap the rewards, because medication actually in some instances masks the pain transmitters using certain components that we might be able ourselves to harvest.

when our body is under stress, hormones have to work extra hard to try to keep up with balance, and I have found that being stressed out about the pain I feel, makes me feel actually worse. So I started to read about quantum physics and positive thinking. And try to surround myself of positive things, and positive affirmations. The bad stuff I try to not engage, i avoid...any negative thing, I try not to get involved with ..Its almost like being here but disconnected at the same time. It allows me to semi function, and i am telling you I have taken a lot of medications and found the following:
Pain medications can mess me up badly to the point that my reflexes are much slower. My reflexes are already slower, so I am very concerned about this because I have kids to try to support.

If you start forcing yourself to act in a positive manner, some people around you might get their feelings hurt because they are not used to so much positive karma. You need to be caring and sensitive, and positive too :0, because the law of attraction works, and you can too be the catalyst of awesome stuff, instead of the person needing help.

What i describe above takes a lot of work and dedication, and some people will think you don't feel any more pain because you are positive. In my case, the insurance has denied many treatment sometimes because of that, I don't know.
But all this mental work comes at a cost to me. yesterday i had to take two small naps to recharge.

what i do mentally is to imagine how my life will be in the future without pain playing with my kids. I make mentally a picture, and focus on it, or look for things that i want to do with them when I get better. This way, I deviate from present painful condition, and gives me a bit of steam to keep going. This is very hard to do, and without psychiatric guidance I am not sure sometimes how good its working, but I know its working.

my last request for psychiatric os psychologist evaluation was denied by the workers comp insurer again. I sent them a thank you card, and their costumer service rep (i think is attorney) called me yesterday, but I missed her call.

I would suggest you to consider that you too can have great positive impact on your symptoms by focusing on a better tomorrow, in my case the greater and lesser occipital blocks worked and when my brilliant anesthesiologist found the injured area , he did nerve ablation and that had a tremendous positive impact on my well being cause i was seeing crazy things around me already
My quality of life still sucks and i still have pain, but I am working hard because i believe I sitll can get better. If you i don't believe it will not work, or not as good.

Sorry for my long rant, but mentally you need to be strong, since you can find an insurer like mine that does not give a hoot about paying your expenses, even though they get millions in bonuses. Their staff get s bonuses too. learn that you can file written complains and grievances against anyone that is preventing your treatment to go forward. Be strong and you will get better.
