Unhappy Rsd

Hi everyone

My name is Judy and transporting is my occupation hense the name Ladydriver. Anyway during the course of my work I tripped and broke my wrist back in June of 2014. Soon after surgery to put my wrist back together with a plate and screws I developed early sysmptons of CRPS. I started therapy immediately because my ortho felt it would be best to start moving my hand and she started me with Lyrica. I had to wait my 90 days to be able to seek out the best. I still have the same ortho but I did switch my therapy group to a specialist who deals strictly with the hand and upper extremities. I sought out pain management but was unhappy with where i was referred to.

Recently I was referred to a Dr who deals with RSD/CRPS and we started with gaglion blocks. He also confirmed that the pain I was experiencing was not in my head which at times i thought could have been psychological but he did confirm the diagnosis. The first attempt lasted 5 days. Last week I had a second but inbetween those shots was a month. Now I am having back to back blocks in hopes that the results are going to be longer than five days. Last weeks shot worked till today. One other thing he is also using Ketamine nasty stuff if i must say. Has anyone had success with these blocks and if so how long has the relief been. I'm sorry if this is long but i didn't know there was a support group where i can vent my frustration with this disorder. I'm beside myself with no one who understand the pain that comes with this disorder. I hope I posted this in the right format.

Judy

Hello Judy,

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups!

I'm very sorry that you're dealing with such a painful condition. If you visit the
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD and CRPS) Forum
I'm sure you will find information and support and you'll realize that you're not alone.

At the top of that forum you will find the 'Sticky' threads. They include websites for information and other resources as well as tips to help with the pain.

take care.

Welcome LadyDriver,

I am so sorry you had to come find us but you have landed in a soft place. You will find good companionship on the CRPS, RSD forum and lots of opinions using the search feature. I always recommend a look at Dr. Pradeep Chopra on YouTube, a recent video from 2014 called "CRPS Diagnosis and Management". It has a lot of info at over an hour long and gives plenty of tips on treatments, therapies and nutrition. He is non-doomsday and reasonable in his approach.

Since you have had surgery I will also give my standard schpiel about making sure there is no nerve entrapment or injury resulting from your surgery and hardware. Entrapment is commonly mistaken for CRPS. MRI will not necessarily show anything. A nerve conduction study can be helpful as can a musculoskeletal ultrasound by a Physical Medicine and rehabilitation specialist who does hydrodissections for nerve scarring.

Hang in there and keep fighting! Don't give up on making sure there isn't a treatable cause and remember that you are not alone and you are not crazy! CRPS is a bear to deal with but most people improve over time.

Sending Healing Love,
Littlepaw
