Default numb and tingling

I am a senior living in Hawaii. In the last few months I have gotten numb and tingling in my fourth and fifth fingers of my right hand. From disregarding it to now really make me take notice of it. I have read on the internet about it and have seen my MD. Now I think it is time to hear what those who have various neurological have to say about my and their problems. I have a wife that has RSD for eight years and we are living through that up and down nightmare.

Default This sounds most like--

--a neuropathy of the ulnar nerve, or one of the branches that lead to it; there is also the possibility of thoracic outlet syndrome (though you'd probably have more symptoms with that--do you have any others, neurological or non-neurological?).

We have boards for both TOS and neuropathy here at Neurotalk; feel free to drop in on either/both and talk about what you've been experiencing, what tests you've had, treatments you've tried or would like to . . .

Welcome to NeuroTalk, Palms! And aloha to you, too!

There are so many possible things just in the realm of neurology that it would be futile to guess one thing or another. My first line of defense would be to ask your pcp if a referral to a neuro might be in order.

In the meantime, there is a nifty search engine up yonder in your page's toolbar that may lead you to posts of a similar nature.

I'm glad you've joined us and if we can help you navigate or anything, just give a holler!

The Thoracic outlet syndrome {TOS} forum has many therapies /websites that should help with ulnar and RSI types of injuries.
TOS {& RSI} useful links-

Hi Palms!

to NT. Hawaii is one of my most fave spots in the whole wide world. Have been many times. My fave island is Hawaii.

I am sorry to hear your wife has been battling RSD.

I see that Jo has referred you to the TOS forum.. Often TOSers (as we like to be called - I am one) have numbness and tingling in their fourth and fifth digits. Have you done a lot of overhead work in the past? How is your posture?

TOS is hard to diagnose, many docs are not that familiar with it and it rarely shows up on mri's etc. . We have some excellent resources on the TOS forum. Please feel free check it out.

Make sure that if a doc send you for PT that you do not do anything that hurts.

Aloha!

Thanks for the welcome.
I am apparently in the pre Diabetic stage as my glucose test shows. Maybe a connection with the numbness.I need to clean up my diet and get off sugars and get regular exercise. Commitment is a problem. I am and have always been slim and only fat is in the gut area. A bit too much for me. All in all I am thankful for what I have at this later stage of life.

Hi Palms,

A couple of months ago my blood tests showed pre-diabetic insulin resistance. I am a bad eater and had a big sweet tooth. Plus my cholesterol was 315 .

Well I got serious real quick. Went on a diet and cut out anything gluten and then sugar. In 3 months I have dropped cholesterol 80 points and 16 pounds lighter mostly around my middle section.

I dont really miss too much. I saw a nutritionist to kick it off since I wanted to learn more about how to pair foods properly and she told me 1/3 protein, 2/3 veggies. Also cut down to one diet soda a day.

I also started testing my Ph balance and it showed my body and diet was very acidic. When your body is too acidic it has a hard time getting rid of toxins and stores em in fat. Make sure to get a good antioxidant vitamin to help along with that sublingual b12 that will help the burning.

Best of luck on changing your eating habits.

Aloha ( I love saying that)

Confused Numb and Tingling Fingers

I just completed a long drive from Mississippi to Illinois. During the drive everything was fine but the day after the drive things changed. I have slight numbness and tingling in my pinky and ring fingers on my left hand. The numbness increases to my whole hand, waking me up at night. I can actually press a nerve or vein near my elbow and create tingling. It has been 9 days now with no relief. There is no pain, but the tingling and numbness affects my awake hours and my sleep hours. Any suggestions? Please Help.
