Hi,
I won't write too much tonight because it hurts my hands to type at all. I use Siri but it is still painful with all the 'tapping.' So, my pain began in my hands about six years ago when I was about 34 to 35 years old. I had a desk job then and had to type a lot. Doctor thought it was carpal tunnel so I had the release done. Got no better and that Dr. eventually told me there was nothing else he could do for me. Pain began to move up my arms. My feet and legs would hurt at night when I cooked a decent meal. I didn't even know this was related at the time and just thought it was normal for me. Went to many, many doctors through the years. No help. Almost 2 years ago I felt led of the Lord to quit my job. And 'He' made a way! I thought I would get better after this but about a month later, the pain in my feet and legs became a daily, all day thing. The pain is down the backs of my legs and the bottoms of my feet. In the arches. Every now and then, I do feel pain around my ankles but that is less frequent. I do have arthritis in my lower back and I do have pain there. I've been going to therapy and that has improved the pain in my butt and hamstrings. However the pain in my calves and bottoms of my feet is horrific. Burning, stinging, pinching. I used to get relief when I got off my feet but now I still hurt a lot even when I am off my feet-it depends on how long I have been on them. I'm to the point of considering using a scooter at the grocery store. So here is my question that I would love for someone to be able to answer--does this sound like small fiber neuropathy? I was about to have the skin biopsy done this week but he was going to take the sample from the top of my foot in the front of my leg, where I do NOT have pain. He said if I had SFN, I would have pain there. So I chose not to do the biopsy. EMG test last year showed I had neuropathy but the doctor thought I might have just been cold. We did it again this year and it turned out perfectly normal. He said I definitely do not have a large fiber neuropathy. Apparently, he didn't think I have SFN either. He actually told me there is nothing else he can do for me. So, just wondering, would SFN cause pain in the front of the leg? Mine is only in the back. I have been told by an orthopedic that I have nerve entrapment causing 'sensory neuropathy' and need surgery on all 4 limbs. He determined this after doing a test where he pricked me and I had to tell him whether it was one or two prongs. (With eyes closed) I really am afraid this surgery would not help since the carpal tunnel release did not help. I'm actually afraid it would make things worse. Another doctor told me my retinaculum's are too small and they are squeezing my nerves and have caused damage. She did no test to determine this but said she can tell that my nerves are dying from looking at indentions in my skin, like to the outside of my knee. I just spent almost $4000 this year chelation treatments. None the better. I do have orthotics for my foot doctor. Seems like they help the pain in my upper legs but wearing tennis shoes causes me more burning pain in my feet. OK I have actually made this long after all! I will stop now, but hoping someone can give me more information about the SFN. I have an appointment with an allergy doctor next month-my physical therapist recommended this. |
