Default New member with neuropathy

Have numbing neuropathy and problems coping with it. Had Bad heart attack last year, then diagnosed with neuropathy, then osteoarthritis. Went in for MRI and had my first claustrophobic and anxiety attack in 67 years. Now with my feet numbing I am having anxiety attacks when the numbing feeling is really bad.

I know I am getting old. My body parts are going out more than me.

Does anyone know of a neuropathy support group(s) in the North Dallas, Texas area? Need someone to talk to that understands what I am feeling and why.

Hello and Welcome Bruce,

Getting old is definitely not for sissies! Sorry you have had to go through so much lately. You have found a great place for sharing and support. The peripheral neuropathy subforum is very active.

I betcha Google can help you find local groups that get together in your area for in-person support. There are bound to plenty of people in the Big D facing similar issues.

Hello Bruce,

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I'll leave links below to a couple of different places here where you may like to read and post.

Peripheral Neuropathy Forum

Arthritis Forum

I'm sorry about the anxiety these health issues are causing you. That would be making everything feel much worse. There is an
Anxiety Forum
here as well if you ever want to discuss trying to get that under control before it gets worse.

wishing you all the best. I'm sure you'll find support and information here.

Default Have tried Google

I have tried Google and can only find two down by you and one in Houston. One of the reasons I joined this Support Group was to see if I can get replies from people in North Dallas and start a Support Group.

Gosh darn it Bruce, you're right! I checked too and not much out there for in person meetings. You might consider a broader support group like one for chronic pain that would draw more members. A search for that located a group that meets monthly on Wednesdays through Jewish Family Services in Dallas (which serves community at large regardless of faith).

Regardless of the cause, we all face similar challenges when dealing with painful conditions. You would likely find folks there who understand and want to help. Otherwise, you might inquire with some of the larger neurology practices or academic hospitals like BCM or UTSW.

I do know for sure that you will find good support here on the forum and many struggling with the same things. We may not share the same locale but we have power in numbers.

Hello welcome, going in the tube is no fun for me either. I always have the technician show me how to pull the pin incase I need to get out. It helps me calm the anxiety.

I am having much trouble accepting aging issues along with neuropathy. All the things I thought I would do in retirement have been taken away. Golf, Motorcycle, Fishing. Dating women that have nice fishing boats. It's all gone and I have to settle. I guess that is a part of getting older, settling. There are a few tricks that may help with the Neuropathy but if you lurk and read, you will pick up on them. Good Luck, Ken in Texas.
