New member to ALS forum
Hello ALS members! I am new to this site so I'm still trying to manuver through this site. I was dx May 23, 2016 I have Bulbar ALS. My speech started slurring August 2015. Thought it could be the wine, or just being in Leadville, Colo. After a few months it did not get better went to several dr's & finally they referred me to a Neuro Specialist & the testing began & finally 5/2016 dx of ALS was determined. Wow! I'm sure we were all somewhat shocked with dx. So far I am still able to eat normally & drink pretty much w/straw. I have fallen 4 times since dx but mostly from losing my balance. Still go up & down my stairs BR is up stairs. Have difficulty lifting my left leg & to an extent my right leg. My toes on both feet feel numb & stiff but I try to keep stretching them. Dressing myself is quite a challenge & so is bathing at times. I have such little info as to how ALS works. Is it different for women then for men?? I truly would like to hear from a few people who have ALS & what they are experiencing. No doubt this is a disease like no other. I am currently 3 yrs remission on BC stage 2. To say that getting dx of ALS was overwhelming after BC is putting mildly. That's my story in a nutshell. Have a great day!! I have ALS, ALS does not have me😍
