Hi,
I'm in my 60s and developed pins and needles in my legs and feet after a hit and run accident (I was ' hit' and the other bloke 'ran') back in 2004. Over the years and especially after two lots of open heart surgery and two brain injuries, it has progressed to worse pins and needles from the waist down and a horrible burning peripheral neuropathy in my feet (I can't wear shoes more than an hour maximmum). Doctors and neurologists have no answers other than 'I think I see a syrinx in your thoracic spine', or 'yes, the prick tests show that you have peripheral neuropathy - but I don;t know what is causing it or how you can treat it'. My favourite was 'medication for Parkinson's Disease might help, but the side effects will probably be worse than your current symptoms..' Although the doctors and specialists ideas are sort of amusing, the pain is not, so while searching for answers I found this forum and I am amazed at the number of other people suffering this and similar problems. Again, thanks for accepting me as a member. Cheers, Ross. |

Hi Ross
Welcome to NeuroTalk ![]() I am sorry to read about your problems. The PN forum here (https://www.neurotalk.org/peripheral-neuropathy/) is very active so if you post there other members will be able to offer you support and good ideas. Also, a thoracic syrinx can be associated with Chiari Malformation. You could search (https://www.neurotalk.org/search.php) the Chiari forum here to see if there is anything which might help. All the best.

I also have/had a syrinx.
Where is our syrinx located in your thoracic spine Sometimes a syrinx can be caused by something called a filum terminal disease There is a clinic I went to in Spain that did a simple surgery and reversed my symptoms ** the Chiari clinic in BARCELONA. |
