New arrival
Noob here with raging tinnitus. As a pedestrian I was hit by a car in February 2019. I was walking along the shoulder of the road that my street connects to. A very drunk driver in an SUV struck me then fled the scene. He was later caught (0.19% BAC) and sent to prison. I layed there on the side of the road for 25 minutes bleeding into my brain with multiple skull fractures before EMT's arrived. Security video from a nearby building established a timeline. That put me into a coma for a month. I spent five months in the hospital until July 2019. I went into another hospital that August for corrective eye surgery. That was partially successful. The double vision is largely gone but I am left with a palsyated left eye. I also have balance issues. All sound to me is unbearably loud harsh and distorted but the most debilitating issue is constant tinnitus. I have a constant roaring noise in my head. This increases, gets louder and more intense in direct relation to the more sound there is around me. Because of this I avoid going places as it can take hours afterwards for that roar to diminish once I have been able to remove myself to a quiet place. Yesterday I had an optometry appointment at my local VA hospital. That hospital is to me a brutal environment sonically, an unending crescendo of noise for hours. 24 hours ago now yet this noise in my head rages still. This time around it just won't go away. Somehow I manage to cope and I am actually in good spirits considering. I remain largely upbeat through it all.
