Smile Hello everyone

Hello there
my name is Meredith, I am 39yrs, I have a husband, 3teenagers, a dog a cat and DDD with Cordia Equina Syndrome.
2yrs ago I had emergency surgery on L4-L5 the surgeons removed the disc, quarterised the effected nerves and did their best to repair the damage. Sometimes I wonder how much of the damage was actually repaired The result is I can walk, and I can drive but not very far. I can walk upto 1km, and drive maybe for 30mins before having to stop. Small mercies that I am very thankful for.
I still suffer from back pain, infact a day without any kind of backpain is rare or rather non-exsistent.
I am wondering if anyone else has had similar surgeries and what your experiences with recovery has been like. Do you still have numbness in your left leg and foot? I can't feel the toes on my left foot, do your toes and foot have jerky spasms that you cant stop? More recently and perhaps of some concern I have had a cramp in my left leg and lower back for the last 3days, it has started to ease off but walking is still uncomfortable. My sicatic nerve does not seem to be happy Anyway that is me, I would love to hear from you, we can compare surgery scars(just joking, you dont have to take your shirt off)
Cheers Meredith

Hi there Merf:

I know about the Sciatica. Lord, I thought I would go crazy when I had bouts of that. Put me on the couch for two weeks straight. This was in 1995 and my mom and dad were both in the hospital in another state and I had to communicate with everybody only by phone.

The pain?? Well, it's 13 years later, and I'll never forget those two weeks. Oh, I've had bouts since then, BAD bouts. I've had degenerative joint disease for 20 years. But nothing compared to that day in 1995 when I couldn't get up off the couch.

My aunt told me "Melody, as it comes, so it will go". I never understood what the heck she meant, but she knew her stuff. It did subside.

I did the hot packs, the rubs, the soaks, the pain pills. Whatever inflamed me, well, it must have stop inflaming me, because "knock wood", I haven't had a bad sciatica attack in years.

Oh I have other stuff going on, but hey, I'm 60, and I'm happy to get up in the morning.

So welcome to our little Neurotalk!!!

Take care,

One big, warm, tight, hug, handshake and howdy, moose-size official welcome to the site. This place is awesome!

No I'm not taking my shirt off!

I'm fat and hairy and have a bunch of litle scars all over my chest and stomach from where the windsheild shattered and caved in on me from a car wreck 2 years ago.

Wow.

I really didn't need to share all that did I? I mean, you just got here...

Moose easily excited.

I'm not real familiar with your condition beautiful, but I know other members here are. Just know:

You are not alone.
You are one of us.
And we are here to help.
