Default Please help!

I maybe be overreacting, being the mother of three children, it happens.

I took my daughter to the eye doctor today and they did their thing...at towards the end of the exam, he asked her to close her eyes and touch the tip of her nose with her pointer finger. Now let me point out, my child is very, very bright. She's very active ie. dance, cheerleading, scooters... cooridination is her middle name.

My son had just gotten thru the same exam right before her and she watched him do it. I babysit 6 kids everyday. When I got home from the appointment I asked them all to give it a try. They could all do it. They range in age from 3-5.

Could something be wrong? The eye doctor didn't seem to think it mattered, but then again he was around 87 years old...

Should I just relax? Because now, I'm starting to wonder about a few other things she complains about. Her feet hurt...I chalk it up to dance and the fac tthat she never sits down. She has pain around her right eye, like the socket. Again, eye doc didn't seem to bat an eye when I told him. She gets headache, more than I find normal for a 7 year old. Trust me, I have been babysitiing for a living...since I was 13 I'm now 32. I've seen it all, so to me, this seems like a real problem.

ANy ideas? Or are you just going to tell me to get on some crazy meds?
I kid, I kid.

Hello Vernae and welcome to NeuroTalk.

I would suggest making an appointment with her Primary Care Physician and discuss what took place at the eye appointment and your concerns.

It very well may be nothing but it's always a good idea to make sure.

Hi Vernae

I agree with Snoopy. The dr. seems to be a little up in years.
Might not be up to date with modern med. See your Pdr.

Let us know.

Hi, this is exactly what you wrote:

"I took my daughter to the eye doctor today and they did their thing...at towards the end of the exam, he asked her to close her eyes and touch the tip of her nose with her pointer finger. What exactly happened? Did she do it wrong or something??

Duh me.

She hit the side of her nose and I have had her do it several times since then and she still can't touch the tip, it's either the side or close to between the middle of her eyebrows.

Hi. I did some further googling on the internet about touching one's nose with the hand.

It's a neurological test. If your daughter absolutely can't do this, (and this is what you indicated, right??), I would just do a follow up (like Snoopy suggested). It could just be that her balance is off (perhaps due to mild inner ear infection), You'd be surprised how important the workings of the inner ear can manage the balance that our bodies need.

Don't go nuts. If she's as active at sports and does cheerleeding, and is super-coordinated, I think you'd see other symptoms (I mean if there WERE something BAD going on).

So to set your mind at rest (and believe me, you will want to do this), just do a follow-up.

They'll check her out and you'll get to the bottom of why she can't touch her nose with her finger. And she might just be able to do this later on.

Are there any members of your family with auto-immune stuff going on?? Aunts uncles, grandparents....??
