Hi all,
I hope someone can lead me to the right answer. I wore a new pair of heels a month ago. The straps that went across the top of my foot were tight. I was out dancing. The next day, I noticed that if I touched the top of my foot, I could feel a sensation run down to my toes. Now my middle and 4th toes are numb. I thought it would go away but it didn't. I don't want to waste time and money running around to different MD's. I wonder if anyone knows if this will go away in time, or do I need to see a special MD, or do some treatment myself? When your feet hurt or bother you, your whole body is seems to react! Any input is appreciated! Lori |

Hello, Lori and welcome to NeuroTalk.
Unfortunately, you probably need to see your doctor. Good luck and I hope your toes become un-numb soon.

This sounds as if you have a neuropathy due to compressive nerve damage.
If it was just due to the shoes, it may resolve in time--unfortunately, nerve healing takes a lot longer than nerve-damaging. On the other hand, it may just be the first sign of a more systemic problem. Those who get neuropathy often notice it in their extremities first--these are the nerves farthest from the body core, the ones hardest to get nutrients/oxygen to and waste products out of, and if something is going on that is damaging nerves body-wide, the feet and toes are often where symptoms are first noticec. You should come on over to the peripheral neuropathy board and take a look at some of the Useful Websites: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread177.html Lots of info here, protocols for testing, etc. I would think at the least you would need to have the beginnings of a work-up done by a neurologist. |
