Default Newbie Here :)

Hi Everyone,

My name's Lyndal and I'm from Brisbane, Australia.

I've suffered from severe anxiety and agoraphobia on and off my whole life (32yrs). I was officially diagnosed back in 1998 and place on Aropax (Paxil) which I was on for nearly 14yrs. Looking back on that time now, it would have been about 3 years after initially starting it that I'd built up a tolerance to it. I wasn't aware of such a thing at the time. I just trusted what my doctors and Psychiatrist were attempting. (Plus trialling of different drugs in between, which wasn't fun). I felt like a human guinea pig....

It wasn't until about 2004 that I was also Dx with ADD (without Hyperactivity) and was put on Dexamphetamine for a short period of time.. It rapidly increased my heart rate quite dramatically, even on the lowest dose possible. Anyways, I stopped that and just relied on the Aropax.....

In 2009 I realised that i needed to come off the Aropax because it was causing more dramas than it was 'helping'.... It took me nearly 2 years to slowly (and I mean SLOWLY) wean myself off of 40mg per day....In 2011, after nearly being completely off Aropax, I suffered severely nervous breakdowns. Since then I can not tolerate any form of anxiety/depression or sleep medications.... I went from sleeping 10+ hours each night, plus often daily naps, to not being able to sleep for up to 4 days in a row because I had to get the the point of sheer desperation for sleep that I would take something for sleep....After just one dose I get severe psychological and Neurological symptoms, including out-of-body effects.

My sleep issues went away after a few months and I was fun for a few years apart from my usual anxiety issues.... In Jan 2014 I crashed again... Mainstream medicine could only offer me conventional drugs which i knew wasn't an option. We (hubby and I) were introduced to a wonderful Holistic GP here in Brisbane and I've been seeing hin since then.... He's had me on Dr Hinz Amino Acid protocol. He also discovered that I was deficient in both Copper levels and Zinc, which apparently is unusual. I've been on Cooper and Znc supps since Feb 2014 and last report they haven't improved...I'm just awaiting latest results now.... Anyways, It was discovered that I pretty much had no Melatonin left in my system so I was literally unable to fall asleep without drug or Melatonin Supplementation.

After being on the Amino Acids for about 18months (my body seems to have absorption issues) I believe that I'm somewhere between phase 2 and 3.... I'm still having issues with the Mucuna though as my dose requirements seem to yo-yo... I'm currrently on the equiv of 9 capsules per day but it changes every 5 or so days....NOt sure if this is normal or not.... I apparently don't have Parkinson's , which is great news but because I have a MicroAdenoma (small Pituitary cyst) this is apparently affecting how my body responds to the Mucuna...I'd love to here from others on the same protocol, especially if they can relate to the Mucuna issues.

Apologises for the long post. There's actually a lot more to my story but this is the basic run-down. I thought it was important to try and cover as much info as I can.

Thanks for reading and God Bless.

Hi and welcome and glad you are on a better track with your health. I'm into alternative healing over 25 yrs and have posted a lot since I arrived here. I have my sleep remedy on the Sleep section here and it's called That Elusive Sleep. I get a good 8-10 hrs nightly. Keep healing.

Hi Lyndal

Welcome to NeuroTalk - as ever, many folk have offered you wise ideas.

As far as your sleeping is concerned (I have had insomnia, without any underlying medical issues) I have found the concept of sleep hygiene helpful.

What that means is learning good habits in preparation for sleeping well - sleep hygiene has certainly helped me.

You might find the info in this (Australia-based ) site helpful; http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/b.../Sleep_hygiene .
