My name is bev, i am 48 yrs old, happily married 29 years. On June 6th I will be getting a new daughter-in-law, and in dec my oldest son and wife will be giving us our first grandchild ! lot's to be grateful for. My health issues are trying to run my life and most days i feel like they are winning. I was in a minor car accident 3 yrs ago and suffered a injury from my seat belt. The pain is down my thigh, mostly very achy, but often sharp and stabbing, I have had 3 cortisone shots and now 3 "nerve block" shots. Dr mentioned today that we may want to think about "deading the nerve" can anyone help me with what that really means. If i can be pain free i will do it in a heartbeat, but don't know pros and cons. please share your experiences and therpys with me, thanks

Hi there Bev, and welcome to NeuroTalk.
It would be helpful to know which nerve your doctor was talking about, because some nerves are blocked differently to others. Generally speaking though, nerve root deadening involves either cutting the nerve; sometimes a bit of nerve is removed to prevent the ends from growing back together, or injecting the nerve with a freezing liquid, such as alcohol. Lidocaine or another numbing agent and/or an anti-inflammatory medication may also be used. I hope that helps to answer your question, but I did find some discussion about nerve blocks in one of our forums called the Occipital Neuralgia and other Cranial Neuralgias Forum, that you might like to check out. Hi Bev and Welcome. Sorry about your injury but congrats on all your good fortunes.
Being a Grandma is loads of fun. I have two grandsons myself. I love to spoil and I'm sure you will too. Take care. ![]()
