My name is Kay Graham and I live in British Columbia, Canada. I am 63 years old and have been diabetic for about 10 years. I have neuropathy in both feet and legs but my biggest problem is that for the past five years I have been waking up stiff ALL over (or so it seems) and this is getting worse. Over the day, it improves (a lot or a little) but never goes away. I can control the pain with ibuprofen and tylenol (together works best) but these really bother my stomach so I can only use them occasionally and when I desperately need a peaceful night's sleep.
So, I am hear to figure out what the problem is and how to make it better. Cheers to all. I am looking forward to getting to know you. K. |

Sorry for the reasons that have brought you here, though.
It sounds like you may have two different things going on, though both may be related to the diabetes--certainly, peripheral neuropathy is very common with it, but there are also spinomuscular problems that can result; diabetes is systemic and damages the whole body. Here are a few of our subforums that it might be worth perusing: Peripheral Neuropathy: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum20.html Diabetes/Insulin Resistance/Metabolic Syndrome: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum53.html Celiac/Gluten Sensitivity (should always be looked into by those suffering from diabetes/neuropathy): http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/fo...sprune=-1&f=13 And, with stiffness, it always good to look at the Spinal Disorders forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/fo...sprune=-1&f=22 There are a lot of very knowledgable people here--and some silly ones, too. Feel free to talk to both--sometimes they even come in the same package. |

My name is Melody and I'm 61 and diabetic also. See, you've already made a buddy on these boards. It's amazing how similar we posters are. I also have diabetic neuropathy. I was diagnosed over one year ago, and I immediately began taking Methyl B-12. Go to the Peripheral Neuropathy forum (on this website). Then, where it says SEARCH, type in Methyl B-12. You'll find many posts (some from me) indicating how helpful it's been. To me it's been a life-saver. I'm also on Lantus (one shot a day). I went from 46 units down to 16. All due to diet and exercise. I hope to someday be off of insulin. That, in itself, would be a miracle. But I'm hopeful. So if you want to find any any more information, feel free to ask here or you can private message me. Again, Welcome!! Melody
