had several botox injections Dec 16th for shoulder and neck trigger points. No changes until exactly 2 weeks later. While at the gym, I was lifting a dumbbell and transferred it to my right hand (shots were givn on the right shoulder/neck area) and suddenly had no strength in my right arm. The weight fell out of my hand. It has been almost 2 more weeks and there is no change. I called the doc(I am out of state visiting my folks) and he said at first that the effects such as this would have shown up in the first 5 days, not 2 weeks later. Actually his tech called me back on his behalf and told me he said this and if my weakness persisted I should see a doc here in Reno, that it must be something else. So I did. Urgent care thought it suspicious enough to set up an MRI, followed by a neuro doc and then a shoulder specialist. All agreed it was suspicious, but after their tests, agreed it MAY be from the botox and to let it be and keep working the arm so as not to get something called frozen shoulder. I work out 5 days a week anyway, and am doing rehab exercises and working the arm just to keep it moving. I can't lift my arm any higher than elbow level. It is scary. It probably is the botox and I have to wait it out. But why did it take 2 weeks to show up and according to the doc who did it, he NOW says it probably is the botox and somehow it got into a muscle or nerve (I cant recall which) and we have to wait it out. He says I am so "skinny" that it may have somehow gotten into another area. I don't know what to expect now. Anyone had this happen to them? Funny thing is, now I have to engage the sore muscles to lift my arm, so it all back fired on me. Am sick about it.

Hi petula,
What was the original injury or cause of the trigger points that you needed the botox for? We have quite a few thoracic outlet syndrome {TOS} members that get a variety of injections for pain/TrPs. some also have or had frozen shoulder before so you may find more info on the TOS forum - here- http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum24.html
