hi everyone, im new too this, my name is andrea,i had a full blood count just before xmas and my platelet count was 127, does anyone no what causes it as i dont no? look forward to hear from you, thanks.andrea

Andrea welcome to Neuro Talk, if I may pry for a second what did the doctor say in regards to a cause, i know we all want answers to these type of things, especially when we dont have answers. I do think a good place to find an answer may be a doctor who is familiar with your body. I say this because I have MS and my symptoms may not match the person next to me with MS and theirs may not be anything i experience either, to many factors involved to get a definite answer, but do not hesitate posting a question , where i am not sure, I did a search here and it seems to be talked about in many forums, perhaps another member here may have a better idea on a forum to post questions regarding low platelets, again welcome to NT

There are losts of reasons for low platelets, ranging from autoimmune attack to congenital problems of platelet production to medication reaction.

But, a level of 127 is not that low--most hematologists won't be too concerned until the level drops out of three figures.

The important thing is--is this a new, and totally out-of-character result for you, or have your platelet results in the past always been in the low to low normal range? If this is a new result, what has changed, lifestyle wise or symptomatically? What do other tests show?

My wife has congenitally low platelets, with associated giant platelets--which often contributes to a low overall count. She's always in the 110-130 range, and has been since I've known her (a good 28 years). There've been numerous invetigations carried out, to no particular result, so we've sort of gotten around to the idea this is just her. She does bruise easily, but does not bleed spontaneously, so we are just watchful.

In her case, if her platelets suddenly shot up in number, I'd be more worried.

I am going to the doctor again today to find out if I have to use n-plate . my count has gone up to 43000 then dropped back down 20000, which is still not bad it was at 3000, for about 1 month . any way feeling nerverous about the new drug. any one have this drug yet?
