Cool A Magician in the House!

Hey everyone,

This is my first post on NeuoTalk. I made my living as a professional magician and motivational speaker before a head-on crash 8 years ago, where I suffered a TBI.

After 6 years of intensive therapies, I decided to try and get back into magic, and ordered a whole passel of tricks online. The act of practicing these new illusions seemed to jump-start my brain. I was tapping into the childhood magician and all of my functioning started to improve.

I found out much later that this was called Neuroplasticity. Since that time, 2 years ago, I've gone from working part-time at an office supply retail store, to doing magic shows in my community. Everything has improved. I get out more, handle input way better, and can organize my life like before the accident.

I looking forward to posting on this forum.

Don

Nice to meet you, Donald!

Glad you have found a fun way to see improvement.

Darn...wish you were still a motivational speaker. Maybe you could motivate me to lose some weight, lol!

Glad to have you around NT!

Hi, Don

Welcome to NT.

I'm so glad you're back in the game. You've been through a lot, I'm sure.

I look forward to reading more about your long walk back to the stage. It's encouraging to all of us.

We're here for you if you need anything.

Thumbs up Hi, Donald!

You are so right! Neuralplasticity, or "making peace with your body and mind as they are, and not how they were", can work a very real magic of it own. It's all about learning how to work "around" your challenges, and thus relearning how to live a more normal life. I'm very glad to see you here! You could do a lot of good in this environment. Good luck, and I hope to see you post lots & lots on these forums.

Cool Thank you all

Hey Idealist, Broken Wings, and Twinkletoes,

I'm really excited to be here and toss in my 2 cents worth. That's Canadian currency, so I guess it's a penny and a half!

Yes, getting back on stage is a total rush for me; I so miss it and am thrilled to be doing well enough to pull off magic shows again.

As for losing weight, I'm willing to share what is working for me lately. This is a huge issue for me. I've gained over 50 pounds after being totally inactive for over six years.

I've set a goal for losing 5 pounds a month, getting back to under 190 pounds in one year.

I asked my ex for advice because she has probably lost 60 pound in the past year and a half, from kick-boxing classes and diet. She recommends that I eat half of what I've been eating, avoid complex carbs, sweets and high fat food and getting back into running every day, along with strengthening exercises. I use to run 3 miles a day several years ago and loved it. These small changes alone are enough for me right now. I've had success with it for a few weeks so far...

Be well,

Don

Hello Don, and a warm welcome to NeuroTalk!

I am so happy for you that you are back doing your magic, and again performing. We all need a little magic in our lives.

Best of luck with your new diet and exercise program.

Hope to see you around.
