Exclamation Grandson Sustained A Massive Brain Injury

At 18 months old, while on dialysis, they pulled 8 pounds of fluid off his 45 pound body. He died, they got him back, but he can't speak and won't eat (we fed him via a G-Tub). He is now 9 years old.

My oldest grandson (16 years) supposedly has ADHD, he's in juvenile detention center, due to his criminal behavior, things like stealing golf carts to joyride.

I've just finished reading several very good books:

"The Brain That Changes Itself"

"Look Me In The Eye"

and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

This vid of Jill Bolte Taylor sure got me thinking outside of the box:
*Had to remove link due to being a newbie*

I often wondered if my oldest grandsons condition is genetic, I then wonder about myself....

It's complicated trying to figure out what's wrong, if anything really is wrong, and so on.

I started taking Magnesium, and I'm feeling a bit better, now if I can just get up and start moving this body

Welcome Kitsap Dweller. *scratches head Ummmm, what's a Kitsap Dweller anyway?

Sounds like you need to be here to perhaps find some answers. Sorry about your grandsons. At least the oldest will grow out of his behavior problems (more than likely), but the youngest -- how very sad.

What are you hoping the magnesium will do for your bod?

Sorry for your troubles, but glad you found us! Welcome!

Kitsap, welcome to NeuroTalk!

I'm so very sorry about your grandsons.

If you ever need anyone to listen, feel free to contact me.

Take a look around, there are a lot of informative forums with a whole lot of nice people who stop by.

Here is a link to the Traumatic Brain Injury forum. Maybe you can start there, if you haven't already visited it.

I'm sending you hugs and thoughts.

I know that its very hard how things are going. I am sure that your oldest
needs some therapy along with the juvenile detention. I'm hoping that
while he is in the center they are getting him some.

I would also suggest that they look into getting him on a medication.
I would also suggest that they look into maybe something like a conduct
disorder.

Hello there my dear.

I'd like to add my voice to the other welcoming ones. You have been through it all, haven't you?

I've walked a bit in your shoes. When my only son was younger, we did the Tough Love meetings, we took him to the Scared Straight program at Rahway prison, WE DID THE COUNSELING. We did it all!!!

He ultimately ended up moving away 7 years ago and never looked back. He's been diagnosed with Aspergers but I know there are other things going on.

It's hard I know.

but I'm the glass half full kind of person.

It's the only way I know how to be.

So again, welcome, stick around, and if you need to , VENT!!!

Take care,

Melody

Hello and Welcome to NeuroTalk Kitsapdweller!! It is great to meet you although I am sorry that you have to be here!! Everyone on the forum is so nice and friendly so i'm sure they will be more than happy to help you and answer any questions you may have!!

I am SO sorry to hear about everything that both of your grandsons are going through right now! I can't imagine how hard this must be on both yourself and your family and friends ... I give you a lot of credit for trying to cope the best you can and for actually wanting to learn more about what is wrong with your grandsons - not many other people would do that unfortunately!!!

Here is the link to the ADHD forum that you might find useful. Everyone there is nice and friendly so hopefully they will be able to help you!:

If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask! I am more than happy to help you in anyway I possibly can and i'm sure many others will be also!

Take care of yourself and I look forward to seeing you around the forum more real soon!! Sending many gentle hugs your way!!!!

Alison.
