Confused Chiai One

I've recently been diagnosed with Chiari One Malformation after suffering with migraine headaches all my life. (I thought a forehead was called a "sore head" !) It seems I get conflicting messages from the medical community about decompression surgery. If my headaches are getting worse and I'm starting to show other symptoms of Chiari, are there benefits to putting the decompression surgery off? It seems I'm getting one message from my neurologist and another from my nerosurgeon. I'm anxious to get rid of my headaches, but I want to be sure that's what surgery will do!
HELP!
