Hi all,
I am kind of at the end of my tether, having suffered with pain in my head for nearly two years now. At first I was majorly anxious about it and thought I had a brain tumour. I have had headaches before but this is different. This feels like a burning patch on on the top of my head/back of my head to the left. If I touch it, it's almost tender and feels strange. I also tend to feel nauseous with this or a burning feeling in my throat. I had a brain MRI and CT scan. This only showed a mucocele in my left sinus which surely would cause pain at the front of my face not the back of my head? The Dr kind of dismissed this anyway. I then had a MRI of my neck which showed a disc bulge at the C4-C5 level with root nerve compression (I get a numb left arm), again the GP said this isn't likely to travel up to my head. The GP think it's nerve pain and gave me Amitriptyline which at 10mg didn't work and 20mg gave me tachycardia in the mornign so I stopped. I have now been prescribed Gabapentin but I am scared to take it and would rather get the the cause of my pain. Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen for migrain, massage, heat etc does nothing! I am a 28 year old fit female, just taken up exercise again.. I am trying to start jogging when the pain allows me to. I am at a loss as to know what to do about this or where to go.. Not even sure if this sounds like Occipital Neuralgia? It doesn't effect me like a normal headache where you couldn't function, drink alcohol and get on with your everyday life as I am getting on with my life I am just accepting this pain in my head is part of it but it's making me miserable! Any advice would be so much appreciated!! Thanks. |

I hope by now you've found some relief.
What you have described sounds like ON to me. I have had ON off and on for over 5 years now. The first time the pain lasted for over 30 days with absolutely no relief. I thought I was going to go crazy. I have tried the amitriptilyne and gabapentin. I found neither of those to be very effective. Honestly what works best for me is good old Ibuprofen 800 mg. Also ice packs. Both of those help reduce the inflammation. I also have gotten several Occipital Nerve injections. These sound worse then they are and the relief is worth it for me anyway. Good luck, I hope you've found something that works for you! |
