I grew up in Tennessee. I went on a trip out West with my family as a teenager. While in Utah, some other teenagers asked me what movies were popular in TN and if we wear shoes...

My dad decided to get rid of his Southern accent when he went to law school - is he a traitor?

Born in Georgia. Know them all, some with slight variations. Here in Florida they put cheese in the grits. That's just wrong.

Favorite comfort food? Black eye peas over cornbread with chopped raw onions on the top. There has to be plenty of pot liquor for the cornbread.

Hahahahaha, EXACTLY! And a lot of the time "bless your heart" REALLY means "I don't care about a word that you're saying but I'm pretending that I do."

I've lived in Texas for going on 18 years now and I've only caught myself saying "bless your heart" once, lol.

My Father was from the South and I was born and raised in Michigan, but I was raised around a lot of them phrases, and still use them to this day.

I would love to move to the south and be around good old honest people, but the wife Loves it here.

Talking From the deeeep south

I grew up in the pan-handle of florida and miss that place soo much. Presently I just south of the masno dixon line. Where I come from this area is real suspect of wether it really is the south or not.

I find the use of language "down South" rather amusing. I have lived in southern KY for over 25 years. Not only does one deal with the traditional "southern accent", you also have to deal with regional slang, God bless them.......lol. If someone lives in southern KY, I can tell where they are from within a 50 mile radius just by the regionalisms.

I moved down here due to a job change and the kids had been in a good private Mid West college prep school where language was a priority. They were appauled when they moved down here and swore they would not pick up the accent. The younger one who is now in her mid 30s deffinately sounds like she is from northern Ky.........Louisville or Lexington. With the influx of industry in the region, the accent has been diluted in the those cities. My older daughter, the OCD perfectionist, has no accent, is an English teacher and her children have no accent and use no regionalisms in spite of the fact that they have grown up in KY and TN.

What blew my mind was when I decided to go back to college in my mid 40s only to discover that my classmates spoke one way, yet wrote papers that were gramaticly correct and did not reflect where they were from. It was almost as if they were bi-lingual. Strange. Have a good night.
