Default Hooray!

Finally, an org recognizes the good in having a grassroots' effort like this! It isn't to take anything away from other icons; it just reinforces that we are all on the same team.

Thanks to the Fox Foundation (and thanks to you, Jean)! I hope to see others follow their lead.

Peggy

I meant to add that NeuroTalk has been posting the tulip symbol for quite some time. Thanks, John!

Hi Jean,
I haven't heard much about the PD Tulip for a while. Where does it stand with becoming a postage stamp?

GregD, It takes about 3-4 years to go through the process at the USPS. The last we heard was after submitting 6,000 names of support - the USPS let us know that they "didn't accept designs sent in with stamp applications." They have a staff of designers BUT sometimes they open up the design process to the public after a stamp has been selected to be made. So we're hoping they do that so the PD Tulip design can be submitted as a candidate for the stamp - if the stamp is approved.

Talking PD Tulip is popping up everywhere...

Special thanks to the folks at NT who decided to use the PD Tulip early on. Now it is popping up all over the US:

The Parkinson's Disease Foundation is using the PD Tulip in its 2010 national campaign, April is Parkinson's Awareness Month.

The Parkinson's Alliance is giving a PD Tulip pin to every participant in this year's Parkinson's Unity Walk in New York City's Central Park. (They are also using it on their website.)

The Michael J. Fox Foundation, and the National Parkinson's Foundation, ... has placed the PD Tulip on their home pages.

The Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) researched USPS procedures for choosing a new stamp design, and printed and mailed to the USPS a petition with 6,000 names requesting the tulip design be used on a future postage stamp. (PAN is also using it on their website.)

From PDPlan4life's page about the PD Tulip

Default Thanks for the update!

jean

It would be so cool for anyonoe hosting events/activities during PD Awareness month (April) to hand out the tulip pins. could you please show the link here or start a new thread and give ordering information? I have found that most people prefer the smaller laapel pins. I believe they were about $2.00 each.

Thumbs up pd tulip pins

Peg, you can order directly from the manufacturer. And the midwest chapter of apda is selling the pins at their cost - to promote awareness. Details at this web page:
