Default Drug Makers threaten to oppose health bill

(my chest tightens each time I see Billy Tauzin's name in the media. Remember Mr. Tauzin, former chairman of the House committee that regulates the pharmaceutical industry, who became the new president and CEO of the drug industry's top lobbying group?)

Drug Makers Threaten To Oppose Health Bill

... Drugmakers want a provision of the healthcare reform legislation, which offers 12 years of exclusivity, to remain intact because it offers market exclusivity by delaying lower-cost competiton. However, the White House and Henry Waxman... are jockeying to lower that to anywhere from seven to 10 years, the Associated Press writes.

And so the industry is threatening to bolt. In an e-mail obtained by the AP, PhRMA told its board members that “we could not support the bill” if the industry is given less than 12 years of competitive protection for the expensive products. “Please activate immediately all of your contacts,” said the e-mail from Billy Tauzin, the group’s president."

Arrow dear one,

so he is threatening - his own job,
if he was a doctor - this would be refusing to give care to patients -
what is he going to do raise the price of medicine?
or in reality -that would be ludicrous,to raise prices or withdrawl the meds from patients?
so what else do we expect from the big drug dealers...
bullying and threats...
then I suppose in essence he will cut his own throat...
there will be an alternative, I remember when I was a young girl
the air traffic controlers went on strike in the USA
the then President Regan - fired all of them...
perhaps history shall repeat itself -again?
peace -

What Was Billy Tauzin Thinking?
Imagine that you are Billy Tauzin. You’re known as a brazen politician, with few scruples. You helped shepherd the Bush administration’s Medicare bill through Congress—legislation that included a startling provision that actually forbid Medicare from even trying to negotiate discounts with drug-makers.

Exclamation No real surprises here.

Billy Tauzin's model is former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards who is currently serving a sentence for racketeering concerning the manipulation of issuance of licenses for gambling casinos in this state.

BTW, gambling used to be illegal in Louisiana, and had to be referred to officially as "gaming" until the state constitution was amended under Edwards' administration to change the law.
