Default I fell this morning

I was getting out of my daughters "E-cono box" and took at step backwards which I should NOT have done. I landed on my padded postierior after squatting down to lessen the impact. fell in a puddle thus assuring a dry-cleaning for my "Frasier" windbreaker!!
Now to my point. A nurse and a handicapped van driver RAN to my aid. a lady came dashing up with the lobby wheelchair asking if she could help. THey gently helped me up after asking if i was hurt. They walked me to the elevator I had to assure them I had my balance back and could walk unassisted. It did my heart good to know that there are people out there who are ready to help.
I was going to get a blood test (pro-time) and had just come from my ortho where i got a cortizone shot in my rotator cuff, it has helped immensely.
I have some decisions to make RE my shoulder, but I'll save that for another day.

Aaarghh!!! Sorry you fell. But so happy there were capable folks nearby who were willing to assist.

Glad the shot helped your shoulder, too.

No more falling!!!

Glad you are OK.

There are still lots of good people out there... we just don't see them on the news very often.

I'm so pleased you weren't hurt.

I wasn't so lucky when I fell a couple of weeks ago ... I broke an arm.

I'm glad the cortisone worked for you. I've heard lots of positive reports from others who've had it done.

Glad to hear you are OK. Please do take care of your rotator cuff tear, I had rotator cuff teaar in my right shoulder, steroid injections were great as they masked pain and gaave back arm movement. But that made muscle tears big and started neeew ones and soon it was frozen shoulder. I would not wish frozen shoulder pain for anyone. i am sure you know what you are doing. Just adding my two cents worth

Hi Charlie,
Very happy to hear about your shoulder improving. Sorry to hear about your fall but glad you didn't injure yourself with it.
You're right about people, they can be very kind.

Hi Charlie,

Falling backwards has to be the scariest...so glad you weren't injured. i'm very sorry to hear that your shoulder has been painful for so long. I got the shots for my back and it still, apprx. between 2-3 years later is pain free [on that side]. Now the other side is acting up but PT helps.

Don't blame yourself for the fall. You are all heroes everyday just for getting out of bed.

Default teachable moment

Sorry! So many thoughts come to mind, my friend. First, ouch. Falling sucks on so many levels: potential injury, public embarrassment, resultant laundry and the heart-stopping prospect of ruining one's favorite pair of artistically distressed jeans.

Second, you sound like a trained professional in how to fall. Are you telling us that you had the presence of mind to squat in order to lessen the impact? Wow. I'm impressed. You should get some of your industry buddies together and recreate the scene, film it and post it online for us as a teachable moment. By way of contrast, the last time I fell all I thought was, "it's not so bad, really/hurtling through space/it's a bit like flying, a bit like/the Fall from grace" until, THUD, my spiritual-poetic moment passed and my makeup took on not altogether unflattering earth tones.

Recently I wrote a song for my late father, the first line of which is, "Father, I find you in the fall." If you are an extremely perceptive reader with even cursory religious literacy, you might pick up the subtle spiritual reference there...LOL. When I read your post, it came to mind and got me thinkin' again, even as a gaggle of boys faux-fight like Pokemon in the next room: How else might we use the metaphor of falling to frame our experience as PWP (or with any life-altering diagnosis)? Or our experience of rising, for that matter. We fall into sleep. Fall in love. Rise in love. Rise up. Fall for it, or him, or her. Rise to the challenge. Fall into shape. Fall ill. Rise like the sun. What do you think?

I look forward to my next fall, when I will try to think about damage control instead of poetry! Feel better, Charlie. Love, Rose

Exclamation glad you are OK

Charlie I need to learn to fall like you -- my falls are always alone (no one near by to render aide) and forward on knees, arms, face... A pwp friend & neighbor in my community fell by tripping on a crack in the sidewalk (my trick), fell on her face and broke 5 front teeth! Ouch for pain and ouch for cost of getting crowns.

I HATE FALLING!!!
