At the risk of appearing "indelicate" -- I've noticed greater activity of a flatulent nature. Anyone else?

Heart LOL..Bless you...

...knew someone would be brave enough to own up to that one...

You know,not long after I was first diagnosed....I eventually braved the internet to find out more about this condition.
The one phrase that stood out above all the rest was from a guy whose name I cannot recall...but who I will be eternally grateful to.
You see..he told it like it was and as I read his words it came to me that THIS was how I would try to manage my condition...with a sense of humour whilst still paying lipservice to the seriousness of the disease.

His opening line...the one that drew me to read on was this;

"Parkinsons sucks" .......[or something like]
but here`s the GEM of all phrases;

"In short....you can`t smell a rose but you can still smell a fart."

Michael,

Did I offend you in some way? I have not observed an unusual amount of gurgleing, nor do I suffer from constipation. I am not sure why I feel I was being chastized, but I meant no disagreement. Everyone with idiopathic Parkinson's has different symptoms. My Parkinson's disease is caused by genetics. Apparently an overactive peristalsis is not a direct symptom of my particular Parkin mutations. It doesn't rule out other Parkin mutation or mutation combinatons that could cause the symptom you refer to. Or toxin(s) that may have caused your symptoms.

Default Absolutely NOT, Vicky.

You haven't offended me at all. Actually, what you quoted me as saying was the reason I started this thread. I am glad you brought it back up. My stomach began gurgling about 4 days ago for the first time in years, so I did a little digging on the web to find out if it is supposed to gurgle or not. A healthy intestinal tract is supposed to gurgle some but not excessively. Enzymes, bile, hydrochloric acid, bacteria and other juices are added to the mix by your own body in order to facilitate digestion. The movement of all this STUFF is achieved through peristalsis.

In reality, the little story I wrote in the beginning never happened to me. I just made it up in order to approach this somewhat serious subject with a bit of humor. lol, please forgive me if I gave you the impression that I was chastizing you. That definitely was not my intention. Oh me oh my, I'm glad that cows can't fly.

Default Hmmmm,

I don't know. Just guessing that IF the increase in Requip helped your body start working properly ine the intestinal regionm THEN it could be the reason.

Default Thanks Birte...

....you have solved the mystery for me.I can personally thank the guy now for his inspiration.

As for the increase in Requip being responsible perhaps...for all this gurgling...then I`m in one heck of a lot of trouble here.

My parkinsons nurse,last wednesday increased my Requip dosage,from 12mg daily ,to 16mg [obviously this will occur over a 4 week period]and then if necessary,again to 24 mg over another 4 week period.

If your theory is correct,Michael,
MY INSIDES ARE GOING TO BE HEARD THROUGHOUT THE GLOBE....and the Galaxy....and the Milky way....and....THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE.

Default Requip

Dear Steffi, that is a lot of Requip! You may have experience from earlier trials with higher doses of Requip, and know what to expect. Twelve mg per day is already more than I can tolerate, but of course WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT ( except the guy in Life of Brian, who is not!!!!!).
Twelve mg per day made me feel nauseous and dizzy, my feet became stiff and numb and painful, and walking became an ordeal. My feet seemed to forget how to walk, I didn't walk, I clumped. And then, now and then, I would faint, not on standing up, but sitting in an airplane or in a restaurant and in other equally embarrassing places and situations.
I cut down to 9 mg per day, and I feel so much better. Less can be more. Requip is a nasty drug.
Good luck.
