JUST TOO YOUNG - the story of my life... part 1

When I was seventeen I was diagnosed by Doctor DuMont, my general practitioner, by glucose tolerance tests as a Hypoglycemic. My mother was hypoglycemic as well, so for many years now I've tried to eat smaller meals to help balance the sugar. I've always been asked "Are you shaking?" or "Are you cold?", but after a while I got used to people asking. My mother's aunt had Parkinson's Disease and has since passed away, as well as her sister who is still alive. Both were diagnosed in old age.

After the death of my mother, who died of breast cancer in 1988, I moved with my husband and son to the East Coast in 1990. Leaving my family behind in the Midwest was very hard, we moved again from Hanover, New Hampshire to Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1991. I took my son to his pediatrician, Dr. Maxine Spool, who had four fingers on each hand as four toes on each foot. She introduced herself to us by showing her handicap, and explained that God had made her this way so she would be able to go to school and become a doctor so she could help children.


Dr. Spool was treating my son for scarlatina, but told me that I needed to go to a specialist because she believed me to have Parkinson's. I told her that I was hypoglycemic, and she told me that based off how I was shaking that something more serious was going on and that I should see an endocrinologist, so I did. The endocrinologist ran a series of tests and afterward stated that while he didn't know what was wrong with me, he knew that I didn't have Parkinson's Disease because I was just too young for Parkinson's Disease.


My father passed away in 1994, and at his funeral I was so upset that I was shaking uncontrollably and couldn't be calmed down. After I came back from the Midwest, back home to Virginia Beach, I made an appointment with a neurologist. His name was -
