Default Weekly Check-In Feb 25-Mar 3, 2007..Welcome New Community Members

Hi Everyone..Welcome to our new community members!..We are glad you found us, so make yourselves at home and become a part of our community!

The weather is starting to break a bit from the bitter cold that engulfed us for a few weeks..and I got out a couple of days and started to get my new boat ready for work..Ive had plenty of time to rest up with this lousy weather and all, but find that I still have to take it easy because my foot flares up if I overdo it, but not nearly as bad as it did a couple of weeks ago or so

I went to my other support group this morning and basically we had a discussion meeting amongst ourselves because we didnt have a speaker scheduled, and it looks like we also may not have a group facillitator anymore as well, as he is not feeling that well anymore and just doesnt have the time to devote to it, as hes the founder of the group and figures hes served his tour of duty, which is most understandable..Great guy!!..The meeting allowed many of us to talk about how pd is impacting our lives, and caregivers as well..It was a good meeting for folks to get info from each other and get some issues off their chest..It was very intimate..This is the group that Jim Finn belongs to although Jim wasnt able to make it today..Jim if you remember is the gentleman who had the experimantal pig stem cell transplant back in 1996..He is in the process of writing a book about his experiences with that..I will update you all on that when it is ready for publishing if anyone is interested

I started taking a half teaspoon of cough syrup with dextromethorphan before bed every night since a week ago wednesday, and Ive found that it helps with my symptoms, and remarkably so far I might add..There are some studies on it suggesting that it is neuro protective, and I figured that I am not pleased with the progression rate of my pd over the past year..so its time to try something different thats simple, and inexpensive as well..If I go down it wont be for the lack of putting up a fight..Ive been on the sidelines reading and listening and decided that its time to act

How was your week?

Altered picture of the week:..

Smile Hello from Arizona

Hi Steve,

Well it was a nice week in the desert southwest – but then winter is our best season.

Dr. Dave Heydrick came to Phoenix to talk at 2 PD forums sponsored by the Muhammad Ali Center. He is a great speaker – I always enjoy hearing about his Parkinson’s Pyramid. My husband & I took him out for Mexican food after one of the forums. A good time was had by all.

I’m going to try to change my eating habits to try to follow Dave’s recommendation: more veggies, more curry, less meat, more berries, fewer milk products. We’ll see! I have terrible eating habits – but I KNOW a change would help me deal with PD. Now for some will power on my part to truly make a change.

Our new kitty “Mr Kitty” is fitting right in. The last 2 nights he has NOT howled all night – a vast improvement from the first few nights with him. I think he has finally figured out that he is the only cat in the house. Anyway he is very nice & affectionate. I told my husband we would NOT name him “Snot” (he has round brown colored fur splotches under his nostrils…). So he remains “Mr Kitty”

The MJFOX Foundation is having a roundtable in Phoenix at the end of March. So I sent in my RSVP that I’ll be attending. Something to look forward to!

I talked to my MDS, and she agreed to prescribe the calcium channel blocker Dr. Surmeier mentioned at the PAN forum. I’ll let you know how I do on it. (stay tuned – haven’t received the script yet). ALSO everyone can view the PAN forum – the webcast is available on the PAN website.

Default Hi Steve and Jean

Steve, could you elaborate on the cough syrup some more? Would Robitussum DDM qualify? I have been unable to sleep because of excruciating pain in my left shoulder. I had a CT scan which, although very painful, showed nothing. The surgeon said there is nothing more to do, so have to sit it out and hope the frozen shoulder improves.

Jean, your new kitty is adorable. I would like to get a Maine Coon Cat some day. I like my kitties to be very large and sweet natured and friendly.

I am in the midst of the upper Midwest blizzard. Yesterday, we had about an inch of frozen rain with plenty of thunder. Last night and today we have had 13 inches of snow dumped on top of the ice. Not much is moving right now. The kids are all in the dumps because it occurred on a week-end instead of a school day. Have been trying to get my wireless Netgear card to work with a Siemans router on a Windows operating system with no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Happy skiing to all.

Vicky

Cool

It has been snowing since 10am...now 2pm...already have 5 inches. Suppose to snow for hours.

This will be me the next two days 78.gif...Ugh!!

Oh yes, and we still have tons of ice piled all over the place around here!

Was a quiet week last week, and expect another quiet week this week. Finally saw a surgeon about a biopsy. On to a second opinion with an oncologist at Univ of PA. It is interesting the information you can get from boards like this one...patient perpectives...that you can't get from a doctor.

My cat can't deal with my new computer desk. The old one allowed him space to plop his 14 lbs between the keyboard and the monitor. This one does not. But, can he get than through his head...NOT!s

Cats...can't live with them...can't live without them.

Keep the nature-smiley-010.gif shining in your life.

the week behind leaves another ahead
each day anew once i rise from my bed
my eyes will open and look forward to see
the beauty that God is extending to me

i learned a few lessons as my feet found
camaflouged holes deep in the ground
my learned vocabulary did not suffice
His words are what I need for advice

i come back here as circles complete
as again i am finding myself in retreat
to climb the mountain pd has created
i must lighten up what now is weighted

instead of worries blocking my way
the joy of life will fill my day
for pd is only a temporary thing
my soul forever belongs to my King
