Default Colonoscopy Prep

I had to prep for a colonoscopy on Tuesday..Colonoscopy was on Wed morning

I drank 64 ozs of Gatorade with that powder, whatever it is, mixed in it, that cleans your system out, and had a serious case of acid reflux today, and I take 20 mg of Omaprazole every morning for acid reflux

It has continued to clean me out since Tuesday, and today was absolute hell..From what I understand, Sinemet/Stalevo is absorbed through the small intestine, and if there is and kind of choas going on in there, the pd meds do not absorb..I took four 200mg Stalevos, and got one hour of on time untill 7 pm tonight..I was getting on and off dykinesia all day like my meds were trying to kick in, and when I wasnt dyskinetic, I couldnt move and was in agony

Finally I took a teaspoon of Zandopa, took a nap, and got up feeling medicated, and now at 11:15 pm, I am feeling great

Evidently, because of pd, my body doesn't process that colon prep med, and flush it out of my body

Thank God they didnt find any polyps this time, and I dont have to have another Colonoscopy for 10 years, and depending on my health at that time, I may choose to never have another one again..The fast, beat the **** out of me as it was..I was very weak on Wed morning

Has anyone else had this experience?

Yup, I had one 3 weeks ago. Did not have as much problem with the PD meds afterward. I think that was because they gave me propofol (Michael Jackson) cocktail. So I went home and slept. I lost 6 pounds on that plan! I went for reflux and constipation so bad that after 3-4 days it would let loose and if I wasn't on the throne it was a mess, no warning! I go back for a REPEAT upper GI exam, they found an ulcer and want to check on it from my prior upper GI.

I ended up in the ER today because of this mess..I took my meds at 7:00 am, and by 8:00 am I was as frozen as the Tin Man..I litterally could not walk one step..I have never had to be put in a wheelchair untill today..It was the only way I could get into the hospital..By the time I was half way through getting hydrated I had gone through 3 doses of Stalevo, and absolutely nothing was happening..I couldnt move at all, and could barely talk..I told the nurse and the Dr that when my meds kick in, you cant tell that I have pd

Half way through the second bag of fluid, my meds finally kicked in, and I felt like a million bucks..This was at about 3:00 in the afternon..When the bag was empty, they told me I was good to go home..The nurse brought the wheelchair over, asked me if I needed help getting up, and I said "no, Im all set"..When I got up and started walking out of that place like there was nothing wrong with me, the nurse was mortified..He has the look on his face like he had just witnessed a miracle

I could hear him talking to someone in the background about it as I was walking out

The hospital was Charlton Memorial in Fall River Ma..The care there is excellent

I have talked to a few friends who have had a colonoscopy recently, and they all had something different to drink for the prep..When my girlfriend had hers done a few months ago, she got two 10 oz bottles of stuff at CVS, and she didnt need to drink all of it

I am still having problems today, but I have an Rx to fill that I got from the ER Dr yesterday..Hopefully it will finally end this madness..Atleast my pd meds are working this morning

I guess I am going to die from colon cancer. Why, you ask? Because I am not ever drinking that nasty stuff again! I had pretty much the same reaction to the prep as you did Steve. It took two weeks before my PD meds would work correctly and on time. Either they develop something that doesn't taste like sewer water and doesn't mess up my meds or I just quit the colonoscopy testing.

My meds are working, but that **** is still cleaning me out, and today makes one whole week since I drank it

The Dr said I dont have to have another colnoscopy for 10 years..I will be 67 in ten years..By then I will have had pd for 19 years

If my body cant handle the prep now, then it will probably be my cause of death 10 years from now

Im with you Greg..I'll take my chances on cancer

Yeah, those things aren't fun. I'm curious though. Have you ever tried drinking a couple of spoons of apple cider vinegary in a glass of water for your acid reflux instead of taking that medicine?
