The forum vote was close I understand and after talking with the mods, i know I'm not alone in observing how the button can be used to discourage an opinion by agreeing with everyone who posts an opposite opinion in the thread.

Your stated use of it would not cause these problems.

I cannot imagine that a thanks button might discourage honest dialog and response. I haven't noticed anyone holding back lately.

Let's imagine someone writes in response to a post:

"I agree with you"

or instead, they use the "thanks" button.

I get the same message - neither would discourage me from posting.

Frankly, I'm thankful for the whole forum, and every post. Here of late, I have even come to appreciate Bridgeman's posts.

I'm sorry I didn't make it clear that it was a forum member vote.

I think this forum works on balance and attempts to understand. When the thank you buttons are used to show "sides" so to speak when posters do not agree, it can quickly become unbalanced as the posters do not know for sure what the message is behind the thanks.

Ok this isn't rocket science and I won't belabor it. Apparently this was an issue in forum feedback. I have a feeling the mods don't want to bring iit up again lol. Thanks for listening to my whine.

and yes, I can fully see the concerns you have about the feature as I share them and expressed my concern over it from the outset, especially when it actually also showed the number of thanks tallied under our
posts/avatars

However, Doc put it to the vote and although it was close, 48 members voted to keep it and 44 voted not to and so it is here. Period.

Also, a number of members, especially those with limitations on keyboarding, expressed a thanks for the feature as it made it easier for them to respond without needing to type. And so I can see where it is very beneficial to many of our members

If at any time you see this feature being abused, and being used as an intimidation or bully tactic, dont hesitate to report that to us as we are here to assist in correct use of ALL features of NeuroTalk, including this one

With topics that affect the whole NeuroTalk community like the "Thanks" button there usually is a poll, post or thread on the CFF {Community & Forum Feedback} discussing it.

Of course it's all in how the button is used that makes the difference.


Just thought I'd mention this change in case it wasn't noticed yet-

There is a change in the self edit time and a notice of that on a thread on CFF.

Member self editing time is set at a 12 hr limit now - beyond that PM a request to Kimmydawn or a mod of the forum involved if edit is needed.

I feel stupid, I guess. I have been using the Thank you button to thank folks for their effort and sincerity in their posts. On several ocassions I was not in agreement with what the poster said, but I appreciated their honesty and effort. Silly me. Of course, most of my THANK YOU's did go to those with whom I did agree.
