Default Parkinson's vaccine and MJF foundation support

Michael J. Fox Foundation bankrolls AFFiRiS Parkinson's vaccine

October 13, 2011 — 9:02am ET | By Maureen Martino

The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) will supply $1.5 million for an early clinical study of Affitope PD01, a vaccine being developed ... for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. ...

PD01 stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies that bind to and remove the alpha-synuclein protein from the brain. Clumping of the protein is the hallmark of Parkinson's, the foundation noted in a release.

Thanks for this gem! I have been following this since Affiris made their announcement. Honestly, I think that focusing on alpha-syn is the only road to a cure for most of us. I thought U of Nebraska was seeking funding for a similar vaccine...maybe Affiris is further along in their research?

There is a really great overview on PD processes and role of vaccine used to generate funding it looks like from U of Nebraska:

Default have to replace the dopamine neurons

my physical therapist felt that nothing will happen in pd until a way is found to replace the neurons. will they be safe with the clumping of alpha synuclein and begin production? thank u mjff - as usual leaving no stone unturned.
