I just ran across this report from last year-
Abnormal Oscillation in the Brain Causes Motor Deficits in Parkinson's Disease "...group found that neurons in the parkinsonian basal ganglia showed abnormal 'oscillatory' activity, which was rarely seen in normal subjects. The abnormal rhythm was completely eliminated by systemic administration of a dopamine precursor (L-DOPA), which is clinically used for human parkinsonian patients. The group considered that loss of dopamine induced the 'oscillations' in the basal ganglia and that the following disturbances in information flow of motor commands impaired motor performances. ..." This opens the floor for some questions. How well-founded is the speculation that the loss of dopamine causes the oscillations, for example? And what of other means such as entrainment to manipulate the oscillations? And is there a connection between the predominence of Caucasions in the PWP community and the observation that white guys are such bad dancers?

There is still no correlation between clinical severity and Lewy Body content in the brain of PD patients. Given that research shows we have synaptic dysfunction and that various electrical, magnetic, and vibratory therapies seem to have some impact, there is definitely something to this. Interestingly, I am studying Mark Purdey (organic farmer UK turned scientist) and he makes a strong case that we are but part of the prion disease spectrum...we are the ones who actually make it. He has a really compelling hypothesis and had published in several peer review journals despite his lack of credentials- that is telling. Yet, he takes neuronal loss to the next level. What triggers it? The imbalance of metals in our heads and electromagnetic radiation from the environment don't mix well. The BSE Theory - by Mark Purdey METALS, ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION AND THE ORIGINS OF BSE/vCJD. As for white men dancing...there is no hope -Laura |
