Hey there.
I've been trying to get off Amantadine for about three months now and having a helluva time trying to stay the course. Has anyone been through withdrawal symptoms or had any issues attempting to become amantadine free..? Thx, John |

At one time I was on Amantadine for over a year. My doctor and I decided it was not doing me any good so it was stopped. I titrated down off of it and that was that. No withdrawal symptoms or any other issues with it.

I am getting off Amantadine now..I took 300 mgs per day for 3 years
My neuro told me to drop one pill every 3 days..Today I am taking 100 mgs per day, and in 2 more days I will be Amantadine free..Thus far, I have not had any withdrawal symptoms I had to get off of it quick because it was causing corneal edema, and my loss of eyesight was progressing daily..My eye sight has improved somewhat already

Guess I talked too soon..Crashed real hard wen I wenf off this evening...Nasty dyskinesia, anxious pit it my gut..It feels like nicotine withdrawals without the craving for a cigarette
But I dont care, I'm going through with it anyway..It will stop hurting sooner or later.. Been through worse before

Amantadine is the only thing that helps my balance. I tried to do without it, and couldn't walk. It makes my stomach hurt and my ankles blue and my head hum, but what else can help my balance so wonderfully?

It has been 3 weeks since I tapered from 300 mgs to 200 mgs daily, and was having mild offs prior to this..After 3 weeks my balance has been unpredictable, I have had a problem walking and freezing..I fell down a few days ago and my knee is swollen, and it hurt like hell untill this morning.. Today I decided to stop taking one pill per week, so I only took 100 mgs today and tonight Im using a walker..I have so much anxiety, that I feel like jumping out of my skin..I cannot believe how hard it is to get off of this ****!!!!!!!!!

Why are any of you wanting to 'GET OFF" Amantadine? I have tried to take the stuff twice - my feet and lips swell and my skin looks as if I have leprosy! It really cut down my dyskinesias

For some, Amantadine is the difference between walking and not having enough balance to stand (me). With all the different symptoms, rates of decline, meds that work with different people, one has to think there are many different causes for "idiopathic" PD that haven't been considered. |
