Default Longvida curcumin

Hey, all.

I regret that I don’t have the depth of research and scientific understanding displayed by more than a few in this forum, but I’d like to share with you my personal experiences with Longvida curcumin. I can offer only anecdotes and loads of subjective impressions, but maybe they’ll be useful? Okay, here goes:

Inspired by both Ron Hutton and the UCLA development of “super-optimized” curcumin, I began taking Longvida roughly 2 months ago. I can tell you: I noticed some changes right away. I began taking 2 capsules per day (dosage recommended on the bottle), and within two or three days, I was noticing substantial improvements in cognition (generalized brain fog quickly swept away), and *some* motor functions. For example, I noticed I was typing much more quickly - useful at work.

Excited by the results (honestly, I don’t think it was a placebo effect), I bumped my dosage up to 3 capsules per day, which resulted in a bad headache each morning, and no discernible added improvements in cognition or motor function. Also, I felt like the higher dose was making me very nervous, very “agitated,” and so I reverted to 2 capsules per day - a dose I tried to stick with for a couple of weeks or so, but the headaches and agitation didn’t go away. Eventually, I dialed my dose back to 1 capsule per day, and that’s where I am right now - with no headaches, but it feels as though the single capsule per day isn’t as impactful as two capsules per day were initially.

In the plus column: I feel as though the Longvida is doing “something good” - even at the lowest recommended dose. I can’t quite describe the feeling other than to say: it feels like the Longvida is creating a solid “platform” for my PD meds (Sinemet 25/100 3x per day; Artane 3x per day). It doesn’t feel like the star in my personal PD show; it feels like a great actor in a strong supporting role. Prior to the Longvida, I could tell the benefits of my PD meds were degrading day by day. But WITH the Longvida, I feel consistently “smoothed out” by my PD meds. In fact, on a daily basis, the PD meds make me feel good and euphoric - like they did when I first began to take them.

Short version: To date, for me personally, Longvida does NOT feel like a silver bullet. I need to keep doing what I’ve been doing all along: Sinemet, Artane, walking 3 miles a day, avoiding stress where I can, getting good rest. If I fail in any of those areas, I feel it right away, and not even the Longvida can help. In a short time, I’ve come to regard Longvida as a welcome and effective part of my regimen, but any delusions I might have had about Longvida being a “cure” (that was my irrational hope) are long gone.

ANYWAY... here concludes this report from the field. More as the situation develops.

Default Longvida

I have taken Longvida RD (a brand) as part of my constantly refined regimen for quite some time. I didn't expect symptom relief but at a capsule twice daily I haven't had side effects either. What I am hoping for is a positive effect on progression because of its neurogenesis and anti-inflammatory properties plus its ability to pass the BBB. Here is more info about Longvida: http://www.longvida.com/Curcumin-Selected-Data.html

I take other substances with potentially beneficial properties, too, like andrographis and Baikal skullcap so it will be hard to judge the contribution of Longvida, but I take it anyway just in case.

Hi Mantaray,
Well done, interesting information.
curcumin is not very bioavailable, and you need to add sustances like piperine (from black pepper) to assist getting it absorbed by the body.
I am having swallowing problems and the iHerb Curcumin containing piperine is now too big for me to swallow, even cutting them in half. Can you swallow Longvida curcumin fairly easily? If so, where did you buy it?
Ron

Gerry, hi. I take the Longvida RD as well. Apologies for any confusion. I'm not familiar with the other substances you mentioned, but I plan to scrub through the forum to learn more.

Hi, Ron. Thanks to you, sir, I'm familiar with the Doctor's Best 1,000mg capsules from iHerb. A Longvida RD capsule is roughly half the size of a Doctor's Best capsule. I have mild problems swallowing, and find the Longvida easy to manage.

In addition, I think a powdered form of Longvida is available, which can be mixed into room-temperature water and certain foods.

I buy my Longvida from Vitamin Research Products, www.vrp.com. If you register with them and give them your email address, they will bury your inbox in an ocean of spam. Seriously, I hear from them every day, so I never feel lonely.

Annoying, BUT... ordering from their site is easy, and they reliably deliver in a timely fashion. And they offer good volume discounts which one can combine with additional discounts. (What I mean to say here is: they offer promotional discounts all the time. Even if they claim today's discount offer is a customer's "last chance," VRP will come back with another discount offer the very next day. Kind of funny, really.)

super bio-curcumin, 60 400mg capsules, avg size cap.

says equiv. to 2,722mg of 95% curcumin extract. what? not 3000mg?
400mg, bottle has claim "up to 7x greater absorption.
