The day I am cured of Parkinson’s will be a glorious day.
I will wake up after a full night’s peaceful sleep and as I emerge from my slumber, at first groggy, I think about what has happened to me and to all of us in the Parkinson’s community. A cure! I grin to myself and stretch to the utmost. No charley horses impede me. Moving hurriedly and loving the hurrying, I dress, easily putting on my socks and buttoning my blouse and jeans. Brushing my teeth with only one hand, I reflect on the “what next” of my day. As I finish my morning ablutions, I leave the bedroom with one last look in the mirror. Oh wonder! I have my old face back. Once downstairs I leave for a morning walk. However, first I cross over to my neighbor and good friend’s back yard. Spotting her at the window, I run and mimic that I am jumping over a hurdle in the Olympics, literally sailing past her. She watches stunned and confused. No matter- it is on to my morning walk. As people pass by in their cars, dressed for a day at the office, I giddily wave and smile. Not a stiff smile. Oh, no! A full and joyous smile. It slowly dawns on me that my personality is returning. I stand a little taller as my confidence returns. I am back! I am really back! I continue my walk with plans for a full day, a day of hope, a day of ease, a day of normal. My mind races with the possibilities: I’ll read my book with no attention deficit symptoms. I’ll practice my long forgotten calligraphy. I’ll dance, my partner being a door knob, to the tune of “Rock and Roll is here to stay.” Finally, when my energy is spent, I will eye the plush couch. I’ll sit down in it! I’ll get up easily. Sit down. Get up. Sit down. Get up. Oh, this is fun. I am just saying, if only. What are your plans for that first day? Ann Last edited by AnnT2; 12-28-2012 at 03:34 PM. |

I hope that day comes for you. I know folks with PD on this site, and my neighbor had it. Michael J Fox is leading the charge, and I believe with all my heart the science community is really working hard on this one. Have hope that just one more discovery will make that cure. You post got to me, as I forget how normal movement doesn't happen for all people. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. ginnie

After sleeping in the recliner for the last 5 years, I'll wake up in bed with my wife of 53 years. I'll know I didn't have to worry about wild dreams and flailing arms and kicking feet. I'll take a walk around the block, knowing that eventually I'll be able to change that walk to the run I used to do every morning. I'll work in my yard and mow my grass (or shovel the snow), loving the sweat it produces. I'll gather my grandkids and great grandkids and have a game of baseball or basketball and not have to sit on the sidelines and watch. And finally, I'll take my wife out for dinner, find some place to dance, return home and go to bed with her, saying goodnight to the woman who has been through this nightmare with me, never giving up hope this day would come!
