Default Nicotine Patch Therapy working for anyone?

Has anyone had a positive results from using the nicotine patch? Has anyone tried the gum or vapor cigarettes as an alternative to the patch? All that tried this manner of therapy should post their results, good or bad.

I had to switch up to the gum. The patch was giving me a rash. Took off a couple months between stopping the patch and starting gum. Chewing 1MG a day for last week and a half, and will stay that way for as long as I can then move up to 2MG.

I did the patch for couple months. Noticed after I quit the patch left arm has tightened up some. Right side tremor is showing up more often as well. Will update on gum affects if it starts helping or not.

Cbrf1wr,

Just curious about how are your doing with the nicotine gum? My body didn't like the patch. I found it to be strong for my circulatory system. If also made me very stiff when I was off meds. Yet in other thing I felt good. I used to smoke when I was in my teens, but stopped at 21yrs old. ( 8-9yrs of smoking) I thought this would agree with me better, but I doing something wrong....? Oh well back to the drawing board..

The Nicotine Gum is very tolerable so far. I started with a very small dose. I cut a single 4MG piece into 4 1MG pieces. Chew single 1MG piece per day usually in afternoon. Gonna move up to 2 one in morning and one evening in a few weeks.

So far so good. No breakthrough, but do feel like it sharpens me up after chewing the gum. At least no itching rash to deal with.

Default does it help with dyskinesias?

Many thanks to all -- especially Villiers! -- who have documented their experiences with using nicotine to treat PD.

I wonder if anyone can comment on whether it improved (or worsened) dyskinesias? That's the main problem that my mom is having right now.

Are you still using the nicotine patch or gum, if so, is it working for you? If not, how are you dealing with PD in terms of type of meds etc that you are using. Appreciate an answer.

I cut back to every other day with the gum. I feel like it helps with the symptoms of PD, but makes my eyes kinda jittery right after I chew a piece and for a while after that. Makes it hard to read the PC for any length of time which is what I do for a living. Might switch back to every day since every other day the eye issue seems to have gone away.

The biggest benefit I noticed is it kinda relaxes my neck and shoulder muscles which are tightening up as part of my symptoms.

The release of a summary of Dr Villafane's (et. al.) model with 40 participants, (U.S. Gov. clinical trial identified as NCT00873392, Sept. 25, 2014 is in a XML file, so not best formatting) is similar to his presentation in
Dec. 2013 at international Parkinson's conference(Swiss) and his presentation in Sweden in June 2014. The study ran from 2009 - 2013. The results of this "single blind study" have not been released to the public. The name of this study is "Efficacy of Transdermal Nicotine, on Motor Symptoms in Advanced Parkinson's Disease".
