I just came here to post the news as well! There is a PD clinic named for Booth in the Seattle area; he was a strong voice for PD patients. Great sense of humor; he will be missed!

Default Get out the stationery

April is Parkinson's Awareness Month. This would make a great Op Ed or Letter to the Editor. I remember when Lane Evans passed away - House Rep. From Illinois, who tried to continue in office until the end of his term, but PD came out the winner.

Everybody in Congress was paying attention to Parkinson's disease. We need that kind of attention again. It's time to build momentum in fighting this disease. I saw a reliable statement the other day that stated this:

By 2030, 8.7 million people will have Parkinson's.

I thought, now how can they predict that? Well, think about it - it is said that 1% of all people over age 60 will be diagnosed with PD. PD is an age-related illness, and how many baby boomers are there? 80 million, so that's a pretty good guess/estimate.

Have you prepared what you will be doing to build awareness for Parkinson's??

Good idea, Peg. Maybe my daughter and I should co-write a letter to the Seattle Times!

Peg, I don't think Lane Evans has died. Wikipedia has him alive, as do other sites. Perhaps you are thinking about when he retired from Congress in 2006 (2007?), after winning re-election against an opponent who made his PD an issue. That just shows how well liked and respected he was, that his constituency would vote him back into office under those conditions.
