hat tip to Dr. Ben Goldacres for pointing this out.
I am posting the Good News Bible version, because the King James Version is harder to understand, especially for people whose first language is not English. But you can look it up on any version of the Bible, through Google. How come we did not know this: The first recorded clinical trial: Daniel 1.12 12 “Test us for ten days,” he said. “Give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare us with the young men who are eating the food of the royal court, and base your decision on how we look.” 14 He agreed to let them try it for ten days. 15 When the time was up, they looked healthier and stronger than all those who had been eating the royal food. 16 So from then on the guard let them continue to eat vegetables instead of what the king provided. 17 God gave the four young men knowledge and skill in literature and philosophy. In addition, he gave Daniel skill in interpreting visions and dreams. 18 At the end of the three years set by the king, Ashpenaz took all the young men to Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them all, and Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah impressed him more than any of the others. So they became members of the king's court. 20 No matter what question the king asked, or what problem he raised, these four knew ten times more than any fortune teller or magician in his whole kingdom. |

(1) Chill out. I am not promoting a religion over other religions; parts of the Bible are history and parts are poetry; if the word "God" offends you, replace it with another word; it will still mean the same thing.
(2) CORRECTION: I said it was the first clinical trial, 4000 years ago. It was 3,150 years ago, during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. (3) You've got to admit it would be cool if your name was Nebuchadnezzar, instead of "Bob" (4) These 4 guys amazed Nebuchadnezzar (love the name) because they used evidence-based ways of thinking. (5). Good nite Nebuchadnezzar. Ah, just call me Neb No way. It's the name that gets you elected. We don't have elections. Well there you go, Nebuchadnezzar. If you were Neb, there would be elections and you might lose to a Harry or a Tom. (6) but daniel is describing scientific thinking, 3,100 years ago. (That was before Dylan) |

I just noticed a new type of potato chip coming out: fried chicken and waffle-flavored potato chips. I kid you not, I think Frito-Lay is putting them out. Taking franken-foods to a new level. |

Yes, this is very, very interesting. Thanks for sharing it.
Archaeological findings have been consistent with what the Bible reports. Some say that the miracles done were over-exaggerated, but I have seen miracles in my life. I don't mean to start a debate on the validity of the Bible, but I am just reinforcing the facts that Bob shared with us. There was a lot of wizardry (sorcery) and witchcraft during those times. All of this was prior to the birth of Jesus. I like to use the biblical study tools given at www.crosswalk.com. The following is written in the New International version. Deuteronomy 18:10-11 talks about people sacrificing their children, witchcraft, divination, sorcery, and using a medium to communicate with the dead. I thought that was really interesting that such practices as that go back that far in history. |
