As a person with PD, we all know that science that is happening today will be there to help someone else several years from now. Our current treatment can only include those methods, medications, surgeries, and therapies that are beyond the trial and approval FDA processes.
So, I'm curious of this groups' members, "Where are you putting your money"? so to speak. Are you directing your medical care towards DBS or other non-surgical alternatives? There are a tremendous number of medicines undergoing scrutiny. Is anyone receiving the Exantadin(?sp) injections in trial? If you've entered the wearing off period have you found anything helpful that you would like to share? |

Bill,
A good question. I'm 8 years in, so my working assumption is that no great theraputic advances will be made at a time or a price before it's too late for me to benefit. (I'd be much more optimistic if I were newly diagnosed.) Therefore, my strategy is: - to make the most of existing medications, e.g. dissolving Stalevo in vitamin C. - to make the most of promising life-styles, e.g. exercise. - to monitor the latest research in the hope that I can DIY it. - to provide my data to whoever will data-mine it, e.g. 23andMe. - to build the measurement tools required to ascertain progress. Regarding what I can DIY the most promising candidates are in my opinion nicotine patches and curcumin. I am now doing due diligence for both of these. John
