Default NY Times: Pentagon Agency to Spend $70 Million on Brain Research

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/25/sc...h.html?hp&_r=0

One hundred thousand people worldwide are treated with what is called deep brain stimulation, electrical implants in the brain that can treat the involuntary movements associated with Parkinson’s disease and are being used experimentally to treat depression and other disorders.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency announced Thursday that it intends to spend more than $70 million over five years to jump to the next level of brain implants, either by improving deep brain stimulation or developing new technology.
