I would suggest checking the B12 level in the blood. Levels below 400pg/ml may be too low for people with neurological problems.
Melatonin, our sleep hormone is made from serotonin, using methylB12 as a cofactor. PD patients can be low in serotonin too, and this may be a factor as well. But let's see what the others here, think, too.

if this person can afford it they should see a sleep specialist, could be many things, not just pd, affecting their sleep. could be the bed/environment, sleep apnea, medications, urinary problems, etc. that may also have health consequences. if they don't find anything, then i guess it's trial and error. might be thought of as overkill but at least they'll have peace of mind that there's nothing serious going on. i've read that even changing pd med doseages may help so can be more complicated with pd. |

I totally agree with the other points you made in your subsequent post about potential sleep issues. |

I had the sleep test in the hospital that confirmed my REM sleep disorder. I have one .5mg of Clonazapam as a general rule and up to .75 if I'm in a really stressful situation. I am able to sleep 6-7 hours and generally feel rested. I don't have the horrible dreams to act out any more either, thank heavens.

I was lucky to get two hours in a row and would wake up unable to move and panicking. I followed someone's advice on this board and got gelcaps from walgreens called Walsom. I take one of those and one dropper full of liquid cbd that I get from sootheen.com. I take those two meds plus my carb/levo 25/100 1 pill. I take all this at 10 pm and easily sleep until 6 am or even 8 am if everyone stays quiet.
The other thing I've done is to stop watching certain types of tv. No bloody vampire shows etc. I know that sounds strange but I did find myself having nasty dreams. It is much more soothing to watch travelogues or antiques roadshow. |
